Zovirax will shift quite quickly or stop it developing into a painful and unsightly blemish if you use at soon as you feel the ominous itch. You must use it for about five days though or they will recur.

Trust me on this from someone who has been to doctors about this as a child when my face was covered with them. There is no cure for them. Once yo have them you will have them for life. The only real solution as gross as it might sound is to pop them with a sterile pin or needle and allow the liquid to drain out. Wipe with tissue and discard. Never touch a sore and touch somewhere else or they will spread like wildfire. Do not cover with ointments or creams. They will naturally dry up. Don't get me wrong - it will dry up to a scab but that will soon go away also. It is the quickest way be far.

In terms of drugs, you need an anti viral as the coldsore is a variant of the herpes virus

so either aciclovir (zovirax)
or penciclovir (that new product

both have varying side affects soconsult a pharmacist when purchasing but both are highly effective. Also, from a non medical point of view, BE HAPPY! Coldsores are known to be more prevalent when you are feeling down or depressed so smile to get them away.

There aren't any proven ways to quickly get rid of coldsores, but there are some spectacular ways to prevent them! My mom has gotten cold sores all of her life, until she started taking Lysine and Acidophilus. She follows the directiosn on the pill bottles, and now never gets cold sores.
FYI, you can find acidophilus in some yogurts, but I think you can only get Lysine in pill form. Good luck with the coldsore. :D
Oh, and I forgot to say. My uncle gets them as well, but instead of taking vitamins, he rubs hand sanitizer, like Germ-X or Purell, on his lips when ever he gets that tell-tale tingle. He rubs it on constantly, but he rarely gets a cold sore thanks to the sanitizer. :D

Aciclovir tablets from your GP 5 times a day and if it's on your face , aciclovir cream applied to the sore, also five times a day. gets shot of them in three days if the blisters are already there and prevents them from cropping out at all if you catch them at the tingle!!

Something new has recently been advertised on tv. It looks like some sort of plaster which invisibly covers it while something in the plaster heals it. I suggest you ask about it in the chemist.
