The simpleist way I know is how my brother taught me. Take any type of potato, small or large, and poke a number of holes in it with a fork. Put it at an oven that is set to 350 degrees, and cook it for at least a half an hour. After the half hour, poke a fork into it. The easier it is to get the fork into the potato, the closer it is to being done. A large potato will usually cook for at least an hour, while a smaller (palm-sized) potato only needs 30-40 minutes.
When the fork goes in and feels like it's moving through soft-ish butter, your potato is ready!

For the tenderest potato, when it cools a bit, roll it back and forth in your hands. This makes the skin loose, and, if you have somebody who doesn't want to eat the skin, it means less potato will be wasted.
Cut it in half, and put your favorite toppings on it.
Yummy!

I bake a potato either wrapped in foil, or unwrapped with fork holes so it doesn't explode all over your oven. Either way I do 1 hour at 375. I have also used the microwave & someone recently gave me the tip to put the potato in a bowl with a small amount of water in the bottom. Poke with fork so doesn't explode. Start with 4 min. & then check for softness - turn potato & do additional minutes as needed. The water in the bowl keeps the potato from getting dry. They taste very similar to the oven ones this way.

well bake a potato for about 45min to a hour at 350 degrees in aluminum foil. To check it just use a mitt or a towel an squeeze it to make sure it is tender and the texture you enjoy. Don't worry if it is not how you like it wrap it back up in foil and bake it a little longer. They are fool proof if you keep an eye on them

baking a potato in the oven takes 1 hour. I usually put in the microwave for about 5 minutes or so, then wrap in foil and place in the oven for about 20 more minutes. This way I can be sure it is not over-cooked and wrinkled from the microwave

To bake a standard Idaho baking potato, wash, cover the skin with vegetable shortening or butter, poke five to seven times with a regular fork, wrap in tinfoil, and bake for 350 degrees Fahrenheit for about 35 minutes. Enjoy your potato!

about an hour at 350-375, unless they are small, then about 30-40 minutes. Poke holes in the potato and it will help it to cook.
