$5.00 an hour is ok for most teen sitters.

Define clearly what you mean by 'a couple of hours'. Just some time to yourself? Time for a college class? Time lapse in between 2 adults coming/going to work? I know I'm probably prying but these are some things you're going to have to consider. Whatever you do, whoever you decide on, you will have to be clear about when they should be there and, more importantly, when you will relieve them of the babysitting duty. Nothing used to irritate me more than parents saying "We're going to the grocery store, be back in an hour," to still be sitting there 5 hours later wondering where the heck they are.

Whatever the reason, the babysitting rate mostly depends on age & experience. If you want a teenager whose parents are next door or a couple doors down, it should be about 5-7 dollars per hour. If you're talking an adult, specifically a mom that might have her own kids to look after as well, then you're talking about 10 dollars per hour.

If you want to know the prices in the area you live in, your best bet is also to call around under the Yellow Pages (or online Yellow Pages, as they are these days) to some babysitting agencies where you live and ask what their going rate is.

When I got asked I didnt want to be rude and say this is my rate pay me this or else I wont do it because I thought that was rude and didnt want to charge an outrageous amount and I also didnt want to charge and cheap rate and not make anything, and I also didnt know what the going rate was. So what I did is I told them pay me what you want to pay me and that usually works out pretty well. I dont request a certain amount and I'm happy with what money I earn as raising kids arent cheap nowadays.

As for the rates it depends on the city state and area in general and I would say also depending on the age of the child anywhere from $5 to $10 per hour, and the younger the kids are the more I would pay them as little ones arent that easy to handle.

Wow I wish if I went out for the eve 4 hours or so I would be able to pay a 15 year old $25 with a 5$ tip I have two small children. That seems more than enough. remember the baby sitters age and needs in life rite now. You are not being cheep with your kids. Its reasonable.

Usually anywhere from $5 a child to even $10 a child... depends on where you live and what your babysitter would like to charge.. don't offer anything until you find out what their going rate is

I bet it depends on where you are (city/state/etc) but in the DC area no less than $10 hour if you are lucky! crazy isn't it.
