When I eat I can't help but take pieces of food out of my mouth and put it on my plate. Does anyone else do this?

I don't know anyone who does that, but it does sound a bit ocd to me. Most of us actually have ocd tendencies to a point (you know that song you can't get out of your head?), but some people suffer from it worse than others.

I count things. I like to do things in two's or four's, however it doesn't affect my day to day life, except being a pain when there is an odd number of steps!!! lol, so if this doesn't affect your life I wouldn't worry too much.

However, if it is so compulsive that you would do it in a restaurant or at a friends house then I would be inclined to seek some help, especially if this has only recently started happening. There are usually reasons behind this sort of thing beginning, although for me, I've always been a counter, since I can remember.

If there is anything stressful happening in your life now, or has been, then it could have been the trigger for ocd type behaviour.

Most ocd can be treated with cognitive behavioural therapy (cbt) which is simply a gentle therapy that enables you to change a certain behaviour by changing the way you think about yourself or others. Ocd, agoraphobia, depression, insomnia and anxiety for example, can all be treated with cbt.

If an illness is triggered by something else then the trigger is the real thing that needs sorting out. If you get flu you take antibiotics to cure the cause, rather than only taking stuff to stop the symptoms. If that makes sense?

I need to know the reason behind this...Is there any beliefs or rituals behind ?

Edit: OK you just mentioned the word "fear"... I'm afraid this is OCD. You dnt have to fear of anything whilst eating. Try to chew your food properly and swallow it. It this persits then there is an advice i would give you. Like challenge the belief that you would not choke or whatever. Say to yourself that "if i eat properly and chew the food well, nothing will happen".
It's the fear that you need to challenge. However if this doesn't help then i would advise you to go and see a cognitive therapist.
Goodluck...

Not OCD, everyone has a little quirk that they do it would only be obsessive if you took everybite out. (I can't eat a hamburger without taking the top off and inspecting it)
