The problem is bacteria, which grows on many types of deli meats.

Healthy people are not affected, but fetuses are.

If you microwave the sandwich for 60 seconds, you're fine. But don't eat it without nuking it first.

The other issue is chemicals. The preservatives and by-products of processing (e.g., nitrates) in some meats are not believe to be healthy for the baby. Better to stay away from smoked meats, for example.

So, if you want a roast beef or turkey sandwich, nuke it and go for it.

There is a small chance of picking up a particularly nasty lysteria infection from processed deli meats - this is a greater risk to the fetus. You can make it safe by cooking your deli meats to 165 degrees farrenheit before you eat them.

Congrats

No it is not safe unless you reheat it untill it is steaming hot to kill the bacteria. Lysteria is the bacteria that is in deli meats that can harm the baby ex. cause miscarriage, still birth etc. so make sure that you reheat it if you must eat deli meat. Told by my DR 2-01-07.

I like a nice dry hot pastrami with a spicy mustard on brown bread. NOTHING BETTER! (I say dry, btw, because a lot of places drench the meat in au jus or boil it and put it dripping on the bread- yuck!)
