depends on if they are indoor or outdoor. If indoor, I would not recommend vaccinating for rabies - there is just no reason to. If outdoor, however, I would probably do it every two-three years. Rabies vaccines DO stay in the system for up to three years, and do not need to be administered every year - this is overvaccination and many vets are beginning to FINALLY realize this and make alternative suggestions to people that have been pointlessly vaccinating their poor animals every year.
If you are concerned whether or not your cat/dog has the vaccine in his/her body, you can do a test called a TITER TEST at the vet's...it will tell you if your animal has any antibodies left from the vaccine or if they are due.
Evaluate your pet's lifestyle and habitat, and go from there :)

Normally, they are a three year shot but my vet just told me recently that they are going to a longer term between shots. Blood work has shown that the shot keeps them immunized for up to six years and it is hard on their immune system to have to over come the disease more often. Now, we know vets make a lot of money from shots so if they are saying to wait longer, I tend to belive it. I did look it up on the www. at that time and found the same thing. My cats were used to being outside when I rescued them so I can't keep them in without losing my feeble hold on sanity due to the meowing so I really have to keep them up on shots but I think it is going to be the new norm to go longer. This is true of dogs, too, as I understand it. I hope this is of help to you.

This depends on the type of rabies shot given. Some shots only last one year and others will last two and three years. When you get the rabies shot for your cat, I would make sure you know which one it is given.

Until a few years ago, the rabies vaccines were good for one year. Now you can still do the one year vaccine, or 3 years. Check with your vet to see which one is the best for your cat.

Well, for my cat the first two/three years he got them every year. Now he is good for two or three years without a shot. My vet lets me know when he is due.

our vet recommends every two years for our kittykat, we take her to the vet atleast once a year for checkup...but then i tend to freak if she sneezes and have been known to drag this poor cat to the vet 3 or 4 times a year, whether she needs it or not.
