Hi, i've just insured my car, all i needed was the details of my car ie rego number make model vin etc and my details, if you call they will ask if you want to pay over the phone by card i said no so they sent out the bill which gives you at least a week or so to get the cash together. they ask you what type of policy you want full cover or 3rd party or 3rd party fire and theft. you don't need to be licenced in fact its better because you are gaining points earlier.
my son insured his car 6 months b4 he got his licence so when he got his licence he already had 6 months towards his no claim which means cheeper insurance next time your bill comes. if you choose full comp. hope this helps.

License(training permitt), ID, and money.
I would suggest you go through your parents insurance company as the rates will be less than getting it yourself. Most places do give a discount for good grades.

in AB you need
proof of ownership (bill of sale, registration, lease agreement, etc)
a vehicle inspection report if the vehicle is 12 years old or older (usually given 14 days to get this)
some sort of payment
Driver's license
