My sons, no matter how many times they put their shoes on by themselves, they alway put the left one on the right and so on.. They are three and two. Is there any reason why?

Given thte 50/50 odds of getting it right just by picking up a shoe then 99.999% of the time it will be wrong! No reason - just amusing before it happens that many times you start to dispair! Try setting the shoes directly in front of them while they are sitting and see if they can pick up the right one to go along with the corresponding foot.
The even bigger fun is when they have mastered the right feet and then you try to teach them how to tie laces! Do you ever get to a point with frustation that you feel like you could pee? Well, that'll be one of those times! Have fun!

I have two boys, they did that for awhile. I put happy face stickers on the insides of their shoes. I told them the happy faces have to " kiss" each other. They thought that was pretty neat!! Once they started putting on their shoes the right way, they started to feel uncomfortable with their shoes the wrong way. No worries the child just needs to feel uncomfortable, ( physically), then they notice. You can point it out all you want they`ll keep doing it over and over. Just put stickers on the insides of their shoes....

I don't know the why, like someone else already said, they have a 50/50 chance of getting it right. My kids have done this and i solved the problem by putting little smiley face stickers on the inside part of their shoes. I told them that the smiley face's like to look at each other.

Children sit on the floor with their knees turned out and naturally put shoes on with the fastenings on the inside where they can see them -- that's why they are always on the wrong feet.

Try sitting your children on the bottom step of the stairs. Place the shoes in the correct position, slightly apart, on the floor in front of them. They should get the hang of it. If they put them on the worng way around, make a joke of it and get them to swop them over. My children grasped it between 3 and 4.

the dip thats in the shoe like the curve explain to the that the dinasaur has taken a big bite out of it and the bites have to go to the inside of there foot if that makes any sence to you but thats how i learnt and i never got it wrong afterwoods

My girls do that too, especially if it's velcro. I think it's because the end of the velcro is on the outside, but it's easier for them if the shoe is on the wrong foot. I guess they should be designing shoes!

well that takes a lot of time to learn and it happens alot beacuse the laws of probability says there would be a 50 \ 50 chance of them putting them on the right \ wrong feet

It's purely chance. They pick up a shoe and put it on whichever foot they want - they don't have the perception to tell the difference.

My son does this too. I taught him his "tape" foot. We tap his foot and I ask him, which one is his tape foot. When he taps the right one, then I know he's ready to check his shoes. The right shoe has colored tape in it so he can remember which foot it goes on. It's the only way I can get him to remember which foot is the "right" foot.
