Well, Walt Disney World is obviously a bit closer than Disneyland. I'm sure you'd rather avoid flying to the opposite side of the country. Plus, Walt Disney World has a whole lot more to offer than Disneyland. Disneyland only has two theme parks and a Downtown Disney District. Walt Disney World has four awesome theme parks, two water parks, plus Downtown Disney, and a whole lot more.

I live in New Hampshire, and my boyfriend and I go to Walt Disney World each summer. We enjoy flying with jetBlue. It's not too expensive, the planes are larger than others and they offer more room for Guests, and it only took two hours and 45 minutes to get from Boston to Orlando. We flew with Delta once and it was awful! It took at least seven hours to get all the way to Florida, and we had to switch flights in Atlanta (and in Cincinnati on the way back). It was a really bad experience - a horrible way to begin and end our vacation. We're definitely sticking with jetBlue from now on. They're wonderful.

The best time to go to Walt Disney World is during a time of "Lowest Attendance"...

"January (except New Year's Day) until just prior to Presidents' week in February
The week following Labor Day until just prior to Thanksgiving week
The week following Thanksgiving until the week prior to Christmas"

We've been to Walt Disney World the past two Augusts and have loved it. The weather was gorgeous and the crowds didn't seem too bad at all. I've also been in early November. That was also a very nice time. The weather was perfect and the crowds were minimal.

Now, for a hotel, I would recommend staying right on property. Walt Disney World has over 25 different resort/hotel options. It's great to stay on property if you're flying in because they offer complimentary transportation to the resorts from the airport, and then they also offer complimentary transportation anywhere else on Walt Disney World property. My personal favorite of the resorts is Disney's Polynesian Resort. It has the highest Guest return rate of all the resorts, and it's absolutely beautiful! It's somewhat expensive, but remember, Walt Disney World offers Deluxe Resorts, Moderate Resorts, and Value Resorts, so there's something to fit everyone's budget.

Hope I could help! Have a magical time!

Disney World in Florida is closer to NJ.

Go in December right after Thanksgiving for the low crowds or right after New Years when everyone has gone back to school.

Check orbitz.com for low fares

I typically research on this site and then when I Find the cheapest fare, I book directly with the airline.

Stay at one of the moderate hotels on the Disney Property. I stayed at Port Orleans Riverside and loved it. Coronado Springs was nice, too, but I preferred Port Orleans. If you are a member of AAA, book through their site. You will get a discount.

Have fun.

Don't take the kid until he's at least a few more years older (6 or 7) or it will be a living hell and he' won't remember a thing or have anything to compare it to for memories. The idea of taking a toddler to a theme park is really a cutie thing for the parents, since the kid has no idea where they are but are simultaneously terrorized and overstimulated by all the sights and sounds, and especially those monstrous mice and dogs and Snow White's. Plus you know how kids get when they are tired out or get a hankering for something they cannot get in a huge event of overstimulation. They won't remember it. Either go alone or take the kid when he will remember and enjoy the trip to the fullest and when he can control himself and not be a freaky tantrum machine. Who needs to be thousands of dollars to deal with tantrums?

Leave her/him with relatives and go to the one in Florida. Go to a good travel agent and get a package from them. Don't take Amtrak as travel method, because it's almost as expensive as plane, and Amtrak on its Eastern Seabord line is very prone to fatal accidents.
