don't they understand that my room is very cold in the winter, and very hot in the summer?

it just means not refrigerated or warmed up on the stove or micro,,,,,,,, any room can be a different temp.

Depends what it is. It is usually the normal temperature for the area the food is from. Usually in the 65-70 degree range for North American foods. An exception is red wine ... room temperature is actually the temperature of a medieval wine cellar (or cave) in France :) , and not a North American home. So red wine should be around 60-65 degrees. (especially in the summer or if you have the house-heat cranked up in the winter).

You are assuming they are talking about YOUR room. Rather, they are talking about the FDA Beverage Standards Control Room in a secret location outside of Washington where the temperature and humidity are kept at an undisclosed constant.

perhaps that means the taste somehow is tied in with the ambient temperature of the room?!

No they don't understand....... I think they must live in room temperature controlled climates.

i think they assume that the temperature inside remains the smae despite whats going on outside

no, they assume you have climate control like any restauraunt.
try about 70 degrees F

i think it is a generalization and not specific to a certain time of year.
