just this morning, my cat started howling and meowing. He cant go to litter box and is leaking urine. When he leaks, he meows and almost growls (as if in some pain) Roads are blocked off and all unnecesary travel is not allowed because of a recent snow storm. Is this a serious problem or will it just pass on its own?????
please help as i love my kitty very dearly... =(

if any further information is needed then put it in your answer and i will add details or email me and i will provide them quickly...i just want to help my cat!

in response to jennfiedler82, we're not sure how old he is, as we found him as a stray....male cat...yesterday he was eating and drinking as his normal self would, and it just started this morning. He had been in the litter box but i am unsure if anything was done in there....as of now we have him in a room with water and food, clean litterbox, and towels around. j

We tried to even get out the door first..but it is frozen shut and there is 3+metres of snow in front of it, so even getting out of the house is out (sadly) of the question...even if we did, the car is covered with a 7m snowdrift and the shovel is buried!

earlier, he had a much larger leak than he had been, and he seemed fine for about an hour after that. He took a nap, and when he woke back up, it started up again

It sounds like a kidney stone . It is very painful , it may pass on its own . If he is leaking urine at least its not a complete blockage .

Call the vet by phone and get some advice.

See what vet is eassiest for you to get too, it may not be the closest but one on a main road near you.

It sounds like he may have a bladder infection or urinary tract problems. My cat was recently having the same symptoms (except not leaking urine) and was diagnosed with a bladder infection and "crystals" in his urinary tract. The crystals basically cause a blockage so they can't pass urine. It can be a very major problem and is pretty common in male cats.

I'd call your vet and I'd be sure to get kitty in to see him at the soonest possible time. It can become a life-threatening issue very quickly, as an inability to pass urine can cause toxicity to build up, destroying organs.

My kitty was given antibiotics for the infection and a prescription food for the crystals.

Good luck!

You need to at least get in touch with a vet ASAP and get your cat to one as soon as possible. Is it a male or female? How old is he, is he eating/drinking ok? If he is unable to urinate is he pooping? How long has it been going on?

I dont know if cats can have this happen, but I wonder could it be a kidney stone? I havent heard of something like that before, as I said I would at least get in phone contact with a vet because it sounds serious.

If your vet is out of office for the snow call the emergency 24 hour vet and ask what to do.
If you don't have one of those near you call one anywhere - in any city - just so you can get your questions answered.
Emergency vehicles are out checking on the elderly in our area. If the vet says you have to get the cat there call the police. You might be surprised. Someone might be willing to pick you and your cat up and take you in.
Good luck!

Since you can't get to the vet try giving him cranberry juice you might have to force it down him with a syringe but get him to the vet as soon as you can that Cat has a infection and it sounds like a bad one. You can also call your local vet and see if there is anything else you can do for him till the roads are clear. Good Luck and hope he feels better soon.

your cat has a blockage. Probably kidney stones or struvite crystals but you must get him to a vet asap or he will die. I work as a vet tech and I am serious. Find a way to get him to a vet call a vet and ask them what to do tell them you think it is crystals in his urine. He won't last very long like this.

Male cats are prone to blockages. If your cat has a blockage in his penis or his urethra he could most definitely die. It is urgent that you get your cat to a vet immediately. Clean off the car, shovel yourself out. This is by all means necessary travel. The symptoms you have described are all signs of a blockage.

TAKE HIM TO THE VET IMMEDIATELY!!!! He has eother a stone blocking his urinary tract or it's a bad infection regardless get hom to the VET!!! He can die from it!!!!!!! You can try pulling the penis out But pulling down on the skin on his penis and massging lower the lower stomache FAIR WARNING HE CAOULD PEE ALL OVER YOU AND IT MAY HAVE A LITTLE BLOOD TO IT. this can be gross. But thats what my vet did with our's but if possible get him to the vet it's best to do so as he can die from this!!!! My little Zeus died from it. he had got to the point where it was so bad he had seizures thats how we knew something was wrong. The vet (still think he killed my cat) tried flushing out his bladder but i think he burst the bladder and thats what killed him ause my new vet she did it like I told you above.

Call you're vet, our cat had a similar problem and he had to stay in the hospital overnight due to a serious problem with him. I can't remember exactly but it is SERIOUS he might have something blocking his urinary tract or potentially something more serious. I just remembered that it was a build up of something. CALL YOUR VET!

Sounds like a kidney problem. Call the Vet's office to see if they are there or have an answering service. Try calling another town if you can't get through. Hopefully, it will pass.
