I once had for breakfast in a Bangalore hotel some rice pudding which had a musky, sweet little nut (?) that was
delicious.... does that sound like cheroli?

thank you for your consideration.

From use and your description it sure sounds like Charoli (Cheroli nut as you call it).

If you are in any big city go to a Indian store request Charoli(phonetically), it is a Gujarati word for it, it may be call different in different Indian languages and I do not know what it is called in English or its scientific name. It can be used in place of any nuts if you so desire and if you like the flavour, it should be cheaper then other nuts also, at least it was at one time. Tastes even batter with raisins.
