when you know there is a nasty cold virus going around and you hear people coughing in Church or do you think that Jesus' Blood would never make you sick?

The blood of Jesus won't make you sick but someone's virus-containing saliva on the rim of the cup might. That's why the lip of the cup is wiped after each person receives. But it isn't an absolute guarantee. Personally I receive under both species whenever it is offered. However if I have a bad cold or the flu, I refrain from receiving the cup, for the sake of others. You don't receive anything less. It is still the fullness of Jesus Christ, body and blood, soul and divinity.

Receiving the Precious Blood is always optional ( except for the priest, he must consume it). Even if you only receive the Host, you still receive Jesus Christ, Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity.

One would hope that anyone who is ill would not drink from the cup, but you never know!

In areas where there is flu running wild, I have known priests who suspend offering the cup to the people to help cut down any chance of germ swapping.

Are you nuts?? The Catholic church passes around cheap wine... not the blood of Christ. Is there a chance of becoming infected with a virus?? You bet there is!! Would Jesus's blood make anyone sick? Who knows!! They aren't passing out Jesus's blood in the Catholic church.

I am a Catholic and I never drink the wine/blood of Christ. Believe me, I have nothing against wine but the fact that everybody drinks from the same cup is just . I did drink the wine when my wife and I got married, this difference is that we were first, then everybody else.

I am not a germ freak either but why can we not have individual little cups like some other churches? After all, we do not all gnaw on the same hunk of bread.

I know I am a bad Catholic, save your thumbs-down.

In most cases, the wine is offered at Communion in addition to the bread. People going up to receive Communion bread are not required to receive Communion wine. Therefore, there is nothing wrong with passing up the wine if one is worried about catching a cold from another parishioner.

I myself receive the wine with no misgivings whatsoever. It is possible that I might get a cold, but more likely I will not.

Jesus blood, is really a good cup of wine, and the flesh is bread, that you can symbolize your self if you consumed this substances, eat bread with respect thinking in what Jesus said, as well that drinking, wine, and taste the little bitterness wine has to offer, but don't try to drink other wines???, it will never make you sick!

I don't drink the wine because a lot of people drink from the same cup. That is unsanitary. I only take the communion wafer. I don't really think is Jesus's Blood as I'm sure many of my Catholic friends don't really believe it.

I'm a Baptist. I understand it to be a symbol of Christ's sacrifice. Not consuming literal blood.
