I have lumps in both breasts. I have seen a breast specialist before who has examined me and told me they are non cancerous. This was more than a year ago. Since then, I have started grad school and I lost my job insurance. I have student insurance, but it doesnt give access to specialists.

Lately, I have been having a quick sharp pain in my left breast. It only lasts like a second or so and on a scale from 1-10..its maybe a 4. Then late last night, I noticed a discolored blotch on my right breast. I dont have huge breasts, but it is not in the same area as the nipple. So I have been searching the internet and I came accross IBC Cancer, the symptoms seem to be more than what I have. I wanted to know what discolored blotches can be a sign of and if the sharp pain in the left breast means anything. Im pretty scared, but Im not going to cry. I just wanted some quick topics I could search before I empty my student wallet at the doctors office. Thanks a lot in advance

Short and to the point . . . IBC presents with one or more of the symptoms that you saw on the internet. You have two symptoms right now. If it is IBC you will be presenting more very quickly. Don't pass go don't collect $200 go see a doctor and mention IBC specifically. IBC is diagnosed via a punch biopsy of the discolored area. (red inflamed or even black and blue). A mammogram or ultrasound will not likely give results. You would have weeks to act on this not months if it turns out to be IBC. Now , stop and take a deep breath. IBC only affects about 4% of the population. IT IS RARE so it is likely that you don't have it. Pay attention to what your body is telling you, the one thing I have heard over and over is that it "just feels wrong". Need more info, advice, sources of support in the unlikely event that you do indeed have IBC email me. I will help in any way that I can. (I mean this)

I'd start by seeing your regular general practitioner to see what they thought of the discoloration. If your a grad student you are likely young and breast cancer isn't common in younger people. Your GP might have a quick answer for you and spare you a lot of cost and worry.

It could be a rash or a bruise.

There are a bunch of other skin conditions which could give rise to skin discolouration but certainly it's unlikely to be breast cancer giving rise to a discolouration in the skin. Is there a lump underlying it?

If you are very concerned, you should probably still go and show a doctor mainly because this sort of thing is difficult to diagnose and certainly cannot be diagnosed over the internet.

if for nothing else than your own peace of mind, go see a doctor, your family md would be a great place to start, a few tests will be run to rule out the worst case if its anything else, they will tell you. this is the wrong time to start worrying about money, if you dont go and it is cancer, the only doctor you`ll have to worry about is the county medical examiner and when to make his acquaintance. what ever, good luck
