"How do you say ...?" = "Comment dit-on ...?"

edit: Thanks Emmy, Thank you, people, for the points.
I chose this phrase because it is/sounds the most common. The "on" pronoun is grammatically equivalent to (he, she, it) but it has the meaning of (we, they) == it substitutes the pronoun on general situations like "it is said, it is believed, we (as a people) think that...". When you speak to one person that you are informal with, and you want to know how that person says something, it's "Comment dis-tu...?". The inversion in questions (verb first, subject second) is common in "proper french" and "est-ce que" literally means "is it that", and is often used, but there is no inversion then.
Cheese... yummy!

Well,i think some people here didn't get your question, lol
how do you say = comment dis-tu ...... OR comment est ce que
tu dis .....
A general pronoun could be used instead of "tu = you " which is "on"
Comment est ce que on dit ....... OR comment dit-on....

Good luck = bonne chance :)

Well I just saw WM's answer which is " comment on dit -------- en francais " of course it's right but this is in spoken french .but written form would better be as I suggested and as what Supersuni... said .

the way to make this question is "Comment on dit _________ en francais? (How do you say __________in french?)
e.g.
comment on dit "yes" en francais? (how do you say "yes" in french?)
BTW, it's funny how most people didn't get what you were asking.
At least now you know many varieties of french cheese ;-).

you can say......: fromage
example of french cheese:
le camembert ( a very good cheese, but it doesn't smell very good)
la mimolette ( an orange cheese wich is good)
le roquefort ( its a cheese wich is very strong)
le cabecou ( a goat cheese very good)
le saint marcelin (a goat cheese, this the cheese I prefer)
le crotin de chavignol ( a goat cheese)
we have got a lot of cheese in France, and they are very different (smell, savor...)
