There's a guy in my class that I like, a lot actually. I've never really talked to him all that often but one of my friends is close with him and says that he doesn't have a prom date and seemed like he really wanted to go. Should I just ask if he wants to go with me? Is that okay? I can handle rejection but is it okay to ask someone that I don't know?

If you haven't talked to him, maybe you shouldn't ask yet. Try to chat with him a little before classes to get to know him a little. Show him that your intrested, and maybe bring up the topic of prom a few times. Then you can ask if he wants to go with you. If you ask right now, it might put BOTH of you in an akward situation. There is nothing more intimidating for a guy in high school than asking a chick to the prom. I should know, I went all 4 years and didn't ask once. If you are okay if he says no then go for it.
99/100 times he will say yes, if for nothing else just to have a reason to be there. It is bad not being asked but it is embarassing showing up alone.
Yes, ask him!

Prom is still 6 to 10 weeks away right? Ask him out and go on a few dates before you do the prom asking!

I have exactly the same problem with the main difference that he likes another girl...... Yes so bad!!!! You really ought to talk to him and ask him for a date. You like him that's all needed, it is quite stupid to say that you can't date with him because you don't know him because unless you date him you can't know him. Give it a try then , the future is your's, you should be confident and ready to make him fall in love with you. You should not miss this oppirtunity you can have him and you will get him. I think that you should first start talking to him.Go up to him..smile and say hi. that would make things a lot less uncomfortable. after a week or so..sure.approach the boy and ask him if he has a date..and tell him that you were wondering if hed be your date for prom.there's nothing wrong with a girl askin a guy out.if he says no..well then it'll be his loss.itz prom.it happens once in a lifetime.y not take the risk!

Yes it's alright... Go for it and good luck. Asking guys out worked for me numerous times when I was in high school. Some guys like a woman to take the initiative.

well what i would do is....
first- i would just start talking to him for a couple of days to know that you are friends.
Second- I would maybe flirt with him a couple times a day to see if maybe he will take the hint that you like him.
Third-I would flirt with him alot more than usall and then get closer and maybe call and email or text him and say something like I have know one to talk to so why dont i talk to you.
Fourth-Then I would ask him to go. BUT NEVER EVER LOOK EAGER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GOOD LUCK!!!

Absolutely ! He wants to go, and you want to go.... sounds like a great prom plan. And just maybe he has been noticing you, too, but thinks you are not into him. You know how that works sometimes.

i'm 33 and if i had to write down a list of things that i wish i would've done it wouldve been to ask out this one guy back in highschool. trust me, you two may never see each other again after the prom. and if you do then you owe it all to overcoming your fear. i say go for it! be young and brave!
