You have plenty of time, you want to start looking (seriously looking) around 9 months to your date. If you start looking now, you'll probably find dresses you like but you have a lot of seasons that will come out between now and then - more to choose from. Then after you choose, head to the stores to try them on (most dresses look VERY different on than in books and online) and then it normally takes at least 6 months for alterations and final fittings.

I'd suggest looking now ...online, at bridal magazines and going to local stores to start trying on, just so you can see what's out there, what styles flatter you, and which designs you like best. I'd avoid purchasing too early, due to weight loss and gain. Most places take anywhere from 3-6 months to order your dress, so don't wait too long in 2008 to think about a purchase, unless you can buy one straight off the rack.
Also, factor in not only your wedding date for the arrival of your dress, but also getting it in time for your bridal portraits, if you choose to take them. Anywhere from Feb - Apr 08, you should be good, depending on where you get your dress from, how difficult it is to make, and how long it takes to come in. This is why I suggest searching now so you can find out the information you need ahead of time so you'll know when to order.
Best of luck!

I bought my dress 8 months before my wedding because I found a really good deal. The problem now is that I've gained 15 pounds since then and I don't really like the style anymore. My wedding is in a couple months and I'm looking for a new dress. Learn from my mistakes!

Start looking in about August or September, of this year. Start trying different styles on and deciding what it is you do and don't like. When you've found sometime you really like, you need to order it about 6 months before you're wedding. After ordering dresses usually take about 3 months to come in, then you have to be fitted for it and alterations need to take place. You want to have plenty of time do all of that, just in case problems arise.

You have a good amount of time but if you find a dress you know you want and that you are really in love w get - styles changes and a year later you might not be able to find it again. Alterations are easy finding the perfect dress is hard. But make sure you really shop around before you buy anything!

Most bridal shops will advise you to purchase your dress within 6 months of your wedding. Most of them are made to order and will take some time to be made. I purchased mine 7 months before the wedding. I was told it would take 4 months and surprisingly it came in 1 week.

Start looking and trying on about a year in advance, to give yourself some time to think about the perfect style, etc. Most websites I've been to suggest making the purchase about 6 months in advance.

I'll be married in June 2008, I'll start looking in December. It takes a couple of months for them to order it and them you have to think of adjustments to it. I'd say add another 3 weeks to 1 month for that.

Start your search about a year to 10 months in advance.Purchase books and searc the web. I did get mine online sewn in China and sent to me, which only cost me about $300. And they have great ddesigns. I'll give you the link, so at least you can have a browse. Nobody at my wedding would have guessed, they all asked where I did get such a great dress.
