The best advice I ever got from a renowned winery was not to worry about what types of wine go with what types of food. Drink what you like! What I would suggest is to go with a dry red wine such as a good cabernet (if you like reds) with your dinner - that way when you get to your plum sake (yum!) at the fire, it'll taste like the perfect sweet dessert.

Well, tonight I had Turkish kebabs (shish-kebab, sheftali kebab, and skewered kofte), and I had a glass of Andesitis with that. This is a Cypriot red wine. It comes from vinyards about 1000m. above sea level, on the southern slopes of the Troodos mountains in Cyprus. It has a dark ruby red colour, soft tanins and forest fruit aromas. It was delicious.
As for an Italian dinner, I would suggest you drink an Italian red wine; unless of course you are having "frutta del mare. Then you should drink an Italian white.

If your dinner includes red sauce then you could try a Chianti or some other Sangiovese. Red Zinfandel also works. Also a nice tuscan or Sicilian red. I'm probably having grilled salmon with a good pinot noir.

we are going to the keg steakhouse and i am not sure what wine we will be drinking (i leave that up to my fiance cause he knows his stuff) but i will probably have a mango martini with our appetizer and share a bottle of wine or champagne. to find out what wine you should drink why not call the restaurant and ask them to recommmend a few of their reasonanbly priced bottles. happy valentines day. i bet they will recommend a nice red if you have pasta or a white if you are having fish.

Personally I'd splurge on sparkling wine for Valentine's. It goes with everything. Otherwise I'd pick a crisp white, just not a chardonnay.
We're having Cajun pasta so we're having beer.
