The Galaxy and Galaxy 500 were a 60's era car, and thus did not have a tailgate.
and in answer to whatever model you do have, I have never seen any adjustments to ANY tailgate. Ford, Chevy, Dodge, import, or otherwise.

unfortunately there is no fix for this problem i would suggest you follow the tips left by the others on this question of adding a strap or string to the tailgate. unless you are willing to spend quite a few £££ on going to a specialist that converts cars for disabled people you might be able to get him to put a motor on your tailgate so with a touch of a button it will go up and down... Personally i would go for the first suggestion

Don't think it can be adjusted, but what about attatching a belt, or something to the inside of the tailgate which you could grab to pull it down.

My uncle had this problem. The solution was a small strap secured inside the tailgate allowing him to pull it down those first few inches.
