dogs should NEVER EVER EVER be bred until at least age two,, and then every OTHER heat cycle .... and only should be bred after they have finished their championship in the show ring , had all their genetic health testing done etc.. Irresponsible backyard breeders breed 12 month old puppies as well as puppy mills,,,, shame on you

A one year old Shih Tzu should never have had babies yet..a dog should NOT be bred under 2 years of age!!!! A dog also should NEVER be bred more then once a year and shouldn'r have more then 3-4 litters in a lifetime.
In order to be a responsible breeder no dog should be bred that doesn't meet breed standard, hasn't had and passed genetic health tests and doesn't have an impeccible pedigree.

I am amazed, as is the consensus here that you bred her before a year old. You may have jeopardized her health and the health of her babies by breeding her so soon. Just because she is in heat doesn't mean she is ready. She is still a puppy! Just like a 12 year old girl's ovaries may be ready for fertilization doesn't mean the rest of her is! You need to see your vet about this! If you choose not to - at least give the poor girl another full year before you attempt to breed her.

The rule of thumb is to breed every other HEAT, after the mother is 2 years old, for the best health of the mother and baby.

First off, if you are producing puppies, learn to spell the breed name! It is Shih Tzu. She was too young at one year to be bred in the first place. Here is a link for the Shih Tzus that may help you. Please be responsible with her!
