Just confessing is not enough. It depends on the circumstances, emotions involved and if he (or she!) is genuinely remorseful and repentent. And even then it's gonna take a LOT of work to earn that trust back.

no its not. sorry is not always enough. how would your partner know that you wont do it again? reassurance and proving that you are trustworthy is what gets you a second chance. and that's if they decide to gice you a second chance. i personally would never forgive a cheater, for the simple reason that i wouldnt and have never cheated.

The confession is enough to establish that the truth remains an integral part of the relationship.
Forgiveness helps

You know this can't be answered. Forgiveness is not something that "should" or "shouldn't" happen. It depends on each individual situation. And it depends on the victim of the affair -- whether or not he/she can deal with living with the knowledge of what happened.

If it was just a one night thing then ya, but dont just forgive the person tell em that you need time to think that way it will scare em and he/she will think twice.
If he/she does it again, then its over.

No. Cheaters never stop cheating, until they understand that cheaters never win. When they finally learn to do their own homework, then you've got a winner.

No! If they cheated once, what makes you think they won't do it again a second time? Get rid of him, find someone new.

No forgiveness, ever. It just gives them permission to ignore you and do it again, because all they will have to do is "confess" and receive forgiveness again.
Once they betray your trust, kick them to the curb.
