This is an Arabic greeting phrase, and I would like to know how to pronounce it. Assalaamu alaykum wa rahmat-Allahi wa barakaatuhu. Do you say the whole words, or are some parts silent? What English words, or syllables does each word sound like?

In Arabic, if you wrote out how it's usually written using English letters, it would be "alslam alikm w rhma allh", assuming your question was cut off at Allah.

Assalaamu alaykum wa rahmat Allah is actually very close to how it's pronounced. Try it like this: Long A - long, almost hissing s-la (as in fa la la)short m Alay-coo(like cool is sometimes said without the l)m ... wa is just like it looks, raH (overpronounce that h)maht Allah. If you take it slowly and pronounce it how I've written it, you should have it, or be pretty darn close anyway. Once you get it, you can say it faster, not spending so long on the long sounds, but remembering to emphasize them.

Well, you perfectly wrote it after the silent letters have been dropped look, the original sentence is :
Al salaam alaykom wa rahmatu Allahi wa barakatu
But the letter / l / in the word "al " is dropped to be the same consonant as the following on e"s" so :
Al salaam = Assalaam
Note that we add short vowel in connected speech after the word "rahmat " to be "rahmatu "
as what you did in case of "Allah" you added the vowel / i / to be "Allahi "

* Finally it means"may beace & blessing of God be upun you "
Details:
#Assalaam >>"A" as in "at" /" a" as in "hat" / "aa" as in "as in "hat " also but quite longer.
#Alaykom >>"A" as in "at"/ "a" as in "hat "/ "y" as in "year"/ "o" as in "cOmmuniction"
#barakatu >>"a" all like "hat" / "u" as in "urdU"
Hope it helps:)
