In ancient Jewish tradition Satan is simply an angel doing the work that God assigned to Satan to do.
The word Satan means challenger. With the idea of Satan challenging us, or tempting if you will. This description sees Satan as the angel who is the embodiment of man's challenges. This idea of Satan works closely with God as an integral part of Gods plan for us. His job is to make choosing good over evil enough of a challenge so that it becomes clear to us that there can be only one meaningful or logical choice.
Contrast this to Christianity, which sees Satan as God's opponent. In Jewish thought, the idea that there exists anything capable of setting itself up as God's opponent would be considered polytheistic or setting up the devil to be an equally powerful polarity to god or a demigod.
Oddly, proof for The Christian satan/devil mythology is supposedly found in the ancient Jewish texts that were borrowed to create the bible. One can’t help but wonder how Christians came up with such a fantastically different interpretation of Gods assistant Satan in their theology.
Other hints about Satan’s role in human relations can be seen if you look at the name Lucifer. It’s meaning in the original tongue translates as Light bearer or light bringer. Essentially the bringer of enlightenment. The temptations of the Satan idea bring all of us eventually into Gods light. Hardly the Evil entity of Christian mythology.
Love and blessings

The CoS is ultimately an atheistic humanist movement that embraces the symbolic Satan as a modern Prometheus. It does not hold to the literal existence of Satan or any of the other demons, daemons, or devils that mankind has invented, let alone the deities it has invented.
The key words of the CoS are personal growth and responsibility, with a healthy dose of respect thrown in.

Wow, ya'll are so uneducated...
The church of Satan was founded by Anton LaVey (i believe that's his first name). Satan is used as a metaphor for what characteristics people naturally embody. The foundation of the belief is that humans are in fact animals (technically they are, so don't try to weasel yourself out of that one), and that their goal is to strive to be the best they can be. They worship their ego, which is the self that seperates one person from another, by raising the bar on themselves, improving themselves. (They don't bow down in front of a mirror or anything). So, no, they don't worship lucifer, or in fact believe in said deity.
Gosh, do some research people!

Basis - The world is all about power those who have it, those who need it and those who are willing to take it. They follow their own instincts, and many follow a lot of the ideas of Anton Le Vay ( spell check?) Nope, not as christains know him. but more like an ideal state of being.

If you mean "The Church of Satan," you should do Wikipedia on it. They don't worship Satan. They worship individuality, if anything.

They say they don't worship Lucifer. They just like the example he set. They worship themselves and see themselves as a "god". Pride is important. Everything they believe goes against God so they are in fact pawns of Satan, whether they believe that or not.
May God Bless you.

They do worship satan. They also have a "bible" that teaches the exact opposite of what the Holy Bible teaches. This "bible" states that satan is good, if someone hurts you you then dessimate them, and it focuses on the drive of the flesh meaning if you want to do it, no matter who it hurts, you do it

Theistic satanists do, but not LeVeyan Satanists. LeVeyan Satanists are in fact atheists.
