Well, I've been in a few of the "evangelical" churches and found it ironic. When there has been an "altar call", why is there no alter to call them too? All that is typically up there is a podium or lecturn.

Actually, there are no Altar Calls recorded in the New TEstament Scriptures anyway. Why do they have altar calls at all? This is another man-made tradition that is followed because of some confusion. Have a great day.

I don't think the actual altar is important in the term "altar call." I'd be surprised if there was any deep reason they did not have an altar.

P.S. I'd be happy to hear a discussion of altar calls. I'm not big on them, but I'd love to know why others are. God bless.

An altar call is less about the altar and more about making a public commitment to Jesus. It's just basically a way to give the person an opportunity to publicly display that he has decided to have faith in Christ. It's not necessary to go to the altar to choose to follow Christ (in other words, the decision to follow Christ can be public or private) but the life lived thereafter is most definitely public as Christ calls us to be doers of the word, not hearers only! :)

I think they are loosely using the term altar to be that where you kneel and present yourself to God. Although it can be done sitting right there in your chair if necessary.

Just a term for coming down to the front of the church.
I don't believe in doing them....I can ask for forgiveness right from where I'm seated thank you very much.

As if God can't hear me because I'm sitting in the back.......

Alter calls are done in a variety of places. Billy Graham frequently preached outside and had endless alter calls to a pretend alter. It lines up nicely with the pretend god.

it truly is decrease Heaven if protestants don't love purgatory: a million Corin 3:15 If the artwork is burned, the builder will struggle through loss; the builder will be saved, yet in trouble-free words as through fireplace. save in trouble-free words via cleansing fireplace. Matthew 12:32 And whoever speaks a be conscious hostile to the Son of guy will be forgiven; yet whoever speaks hostile to the holy Spirit isn't forgiven, both in this age or in the age to come back. Sins are forgiven in the age to come back: even idle words are cleansed in decrease heaven...
