I was told I needed a Firewire PCI card (of which I bought) and have inserted it into the computer case, I also bought a firewire cable of which one end fits into the PCI card and the other into my camcorder. My problem is I don't know what to do next, nothing happens when I turn the camcorder on. Eventually I hope to be able to make a DVD from the images on the computer. Can anybody help? Oh and I have windows XP, if that makes a difference to the answer.

If you have Windows Movie maker, you need to open that or some program to download the info from your camcorder onto your computer. Then, after you get it on your hardrive, you can edit it, and then record it onto a DVD.

What happens when you open Windows Movie Maker and select Capture from video device?

Try this: Open Windows Movie Maker. Turn on your camcorder.
You should see a Video Capture Wizard dialog form.

All you did was provide a physical connection between your camcorder and PC. You still need to purchase the video capturing software. The most common is Dazzle and ULead. I believe both offer shareware for you to try out from their website.

Try both out and report back here as to which one you like the best.
