I hate to say it for fear of being criticised but what worked for me was simply not allowing myself to buy them in the first place, on the basis that however much you crave something, if there's no sweets or chocolate in the cupboard, then you can't have it. If you want to cut down then you really have to do everything in your power to make sure that you can't have it in the first place, in short then, remove temptation AND ALSO condition yourself to living without.

purchase the 80 5% cocoa, commerce free from entire meals. eat one piece. that is totally wealthy, yet severe in anti oxidants. the cost will keep you from overeating. What you call chocolate is more often than not corn syrup and saturated fat or vegetable fat for stabilizer. study the label. you're ingesting sugar. you'll ought to learn the dependancy aspect. i'm no longer particular it is a drug, besides the undeniable fact that it may well be.

I would keep healthier treats around the kitchen. Smoothies - blend up some fruit and ice cream, or yogurt. Having some fruit with dinner usually helps that "after dinner crave" of something sweet. Ie: serve some peaches or mango with pork, cranberries with chicken, redcurrants with lamb etc. Most fish team up wonderfully with fruit, mango salsa for example.
Hope it helps.
Did you know?
Chocolate is poisonous to dogs and other pets, and can even be lethal. It contains theobromine which affects their heart and nervous system.

Buy a bar of good quality dark chocolate (70%) have one piece when the craving starts. I think you'll find you get 'the hit' with one piece. Prepare fingers of carrot & other veg & fruit, and leave covered in the 'fridge. Snack on those instead of choc. You'll feel all the beter for it, but it does require will power! Good luck.

Honestly, go cold turkey. Stay away from ALL sugar. Just tell yourself you're going to try it for a week. The cravings will begin to fade. Start replacing those sweet treats with healthy ones like fruit and yogurt.

Finally...A subject right up my alley.
>=)
<--Makes the chocolate. Is a chocolatier.
Honestly..I was addicted to the stuff for ages. If you are around it enough, you get sick of it. But in your case...go cold turkey. Or circle a day on your calendar where if you go an entire week without it, you get a block of it as a reward. Literally smack yourself for eyeing it if you have to.
The best way to stop it is make sure there is none of it in the house, and make it extremely hard to get to a place that sells it.

Me too, but I have to be careful and not eat too much, so I only allow myself one piece of good quality dark chocolate per day, with my coffee after dinner in the evening. I keep a nice bunch of grapes handy and if I long for sweet things at other times I have a couple of those. I hope this helps you - it works for me!

Maybe buy those miniature bars and just have a taste or two rather than a full size bar. If we knew a true answer to this we would be millionaires and people would pay us for the secret!! Life is for living so deny yourself too much!!

Emma I am going to look at your answers as I have the same problem and at the moment can't seem to control it. Maybe it is because it is cold when I come hom e from work and settle down and have a treat. Never had the problem when I used to drink like a fish tho'!!

Get a friend to do your shopping for you, & when you go out, leave your money at home, so you can't buy any. There is such a thing as self-control, but I don't think it applies to chocolate (I should know - I have the same problem!!!).
