You can go to any courthouse and do it, but you have to apply for the license and you have to wait whatever the time is for it to become valid. Check the laws of your city and of the state to do it.

I live in California, and when my husband and I went to get our license at the Santa Ana courthouse, the clerk asked if we wanted to get married right then, because they had time. She also said if we wanted to get married "tomorrow" they were already booked. Seeing that this is Valentine's Day, they are probably booked solid. Check several different courthouses in the area where you live and see if anybody has an opening today. The licensing only takes a little while (unless there is a line) and there is no waiting period for the license to be valid. If there were, she wouldn't have offered to marry us that day. We didn't take her up on the offer, we already had a wedding planned. I got married a year ago January so I know this information is correct. Congrats, and good luck!

I don't think you can get married today because you have to go to the court house and get a license and then there is like a 72 hour waiting period. If a judge is there though he might excuse you from it if you have a good reason. But chances are a judge won't be there this late in the afternoon. But almost every courthouse closes at 4:30 so you better get on the ball.

You both need to get a marriage license at the county head offices and then call a justice of the peace. We had to call in before 4:30 pm and be there exactly at that time to register. If you have witnesses, bring them, otherwise someone of the office will do it, sometime you need to pay a fee for that.
