Roundworms are typically puppy worms, they all have them. That is why all pups should be tested.dewormed by the vet along with shots and checkup.

Be advised that the OTC wormers do not target all the different types of intestinal parasites!!!! A bloody stool normally indicates hooks or whips and those can take a pup down quick. You will not see those.

A pup can have more than just the roundworms, depending on health of mom at birth. Others have described the roundworms that you can see. The worst ones are those you cannot see. They cause internal bleeding of gut and can kill.

Someone got confused about roundworms and heartworms. Big difference there. Yes, heartworms kill. They are spread by mosquitoes when bite the dog and worms grow in the heart. You will also want to ask the vet about Heartworm prevention when old enough. Very very important as it a horrible way to die.

If you are seeing bloody stool then get the pup to vet for a checkup now. Could be several things and none to be home treated or ignored.

There is really no such worm as a "stomach" worm.Waht your vet was probably refering to is roundworms (ascarids). These worms are long white/off white worms like spaghetti. You may or may not see them.Often they are only detected by a feacal test. Puppies need to be wormed often..2, 4, 6 & 8 weeks of age and then periodically until they are a year old, then at least yearly after that (twice a year is better). There are several types of worms common to dogs..roundworms, hookworms, whipworms, tapeworms. The only ones that are usually visible are tapeworms, unless a dog/puppy is badly infested.

Yes, yes and yes! Roundworms are thin and curly. He may also have tapeworm, the segments of which look a bit like rice grains. Puppys should be wormed once a month until 6 months of age, then every 3 months as adults. Use a wormer like Drontal or Panacur rather than a supermarket brand, as these will be more effective.

roundworms are long like speghetti and feed off the nutrients the pupy gets in thier food, they live in the intestines and take the lions share of the nutrients leaving the puppy with the leftovers and thier own waste, they loose weight and go off food if heavily infested but it is easy to cure and the vet will worm your puppy several times fduring the first year to get rid of them

This site will tell you more than you want to know about worms!

A puppy can be infested & not show any symptons, it's essential to worm puppies properly. Do not use over the counter tablets as they are nowhere near as effective as those you can get from the vet.

could look like spaghetti (adults), and you won't be able to see the eggs without a microscope. Have a fecal float done at your vet's office.

Typically they do not go off their food, and it may seem they want more all the time (their feeding themselves and the worms). Adult dogs tend to lose weight, yet puppies tend to have a pot-belly look.
