Do you use one?
What type of fabric is it?
What color and why?

Also, where can I find some tasteful cloths? I've been looking around and can only find really cliche, black spiderwebb-y ones..
I'm looking for white or silver. I may make my own, but I'm unsure of what fabric to use...

Thanks for your answers.

A thick cotton fabric is good for altar cloths -- it's more natural than the synthetic fabrics and easy to clean.

Personally I find that buying my own fabric and hemming the edges produces the best altar cloths; that or pick a large scarf in a pattern that pleases you. Once I was in a department store fabric section and found a wonderful cloth that had representations of all four elements on it with the words "earth", "air", "fire", and "water" elegantly and subtly included. They had no idea that they had such a Pagan fabric in their inventory, I'm sure!

A search on eBay for "Wiccan altar cloth", "Pagan altar cloth", or just plain "altar cloth" might also turn up some decent finds -- I have a lovely triple-moon-and-pentacle altar cloth that I picked up that way. Or, if you have a Christian supply store in your area, you could try there.

Best of luck to you in your search.

I use altar cloths of all different colors and fabrics, depending on the season, the celebation or ritual, and the deities involved.

As far as where to get them, I usually go to Pagan gatherings all up and down the East Coast and search through the vendors booths. Some of the sellers have pretty crappy stuff, but every now and then I find one or two that are worth getting.

I'd prefer natural fibers, not synthetic. So cotton, or wool, or something.
