my 3 year old brother is laying down for a nap. not asleep just yet. Our cat goes over to him and lays accross his body. my brother gives a aggrivated grown and says the cat is to heavy. he jiggles his body to make the get off but the cat does not get up. my brother pulls the fur on its back and it twiches its back but still dont get off him. my brother pulled his fur 2 more times but the cat still layed on top of him. I finally went over and shoved the cat off of him.
our cat has done this 2 more times since. what is wrong with our cat?

wow, so many people not realy READING my question. I did not pull my cats fur. it was my 3 year old brother. when our cat ( a very large cat) would not get off of him. my brother complained the cat was to HEAVY on him. the cat (almost as big as him) was pinning him down.

In defense of the 3 year old....some cats weight as much as a 3 year old ! Imagine how you would feel if an animal who weighed as much as you do sat on your back....and wouldnt get off !? Do I think he should pull his fur...no...but the child is only 3 and probably couldnt breath ! But in the cats defense....he thought your brother was comfortable !

The best thing is to teach your little brother how to GENTLY handle the cat. Also maybe explaining to him that the cat is showing him love and affection and that cats use body language to do so. Teach your little brother how to pick up the cat properly and move him....and also watch your little brother around the cat, show him how to socialize with kitty, pet him, and play with him.
Growing up with three Siamese cats, the same way, is how I became a cat lover. A cat can be a great friend for a little kid.

Your cat is not "retarded." Animals and pets, especially cats enjoy sharing body heat and being comfortable. Seriously, chill out about it, as long as your cat is not scratching your brother; let it alone.
Cats do not like to be disturbed, when they are comfortable. I would not suggest that you shove the cat off, he would have the perfect right to scratch you. Relax and have a nice Valentines Day.

LOL The cats just trying to stay warm. I undertand the heavyness. My cats lay on me and my husband all the time!!! And we are both disabled i have fibromyalgia he has broke back and neck. It can be aggervating. All I can say is kick the cats out and shut the door or sleep in a place where you can do those things. QUIT PULLING THE FUR!!!! Thats mean!!!

When a cat totally trusts his humans, he won;t easily be disuaded from doing an activity by any of the human's "posturings" and "threates." You must have NEVER ever hurt this cat - congrats. And NO - your cat is not retarded... he is STUBBORN - like my cat. Just this morning, since I wanted to slepp in (no work today for me), I tried to shove Kaffe from off my head and face (his method of waking me up). He would not budge. And Kaffe is one of the best trained cats I have ever had! So, no - your kitty TRUSTS all of you never to hurt him and is also STUBBORN in insisting on what he wants. He wanted to sleep on top of your brother and wsn't at all alarmed by his "posturings" and "shovings." He is saying, "be still... get used to it, Dude." Hee hee hee.

The cat is probably just lazy, or he really likes your brother. Cats don't like to be bossed around. They are like kids sometimes, if you tell them not to do something that is exactly what they will do.

no, you cat isnt retarded...he is either trying to tell you something, is seeking affection, is trying to get warm...sometimes cats recognize when something is wrong in a person, an illness, and they act kind of funny towards that person, sort of like your cat is towards your brother...this doesn't mean your brother is sick...just a thought.

What are you doing pulling its fur?! Nothing is wrong with your cat. He is just showing affection in his own way, or he is just wanting to take a nap. Seriously, why are you pulling its fur?! Nothing is wrong, my cat does it all the time, but i don't shove him off of me -.-

Your cat just doesn't care. Cats are very attitudish animals and will do what they want when they want. They believe that they are supreme. We can blame egyptians for that. LOL. It also seems that your kitty was protesting, like, "NO! I want to stay. His tummy is soft and warm. I am comfy, I like it here. NOOOO I don't wanna get off, you can't make me!"
