Not sure what you are asking? To put on the coat or about food dyes used in dog food/treats?

I avoid dog foods with dyes added per ingredient list. Have found some dogs of mine do not tolerate the "colored" kibbles well. Some children are found to be allergic to dyes also!

To color the coat? I realize people feel inclined to dye their dogs coats, especially Poodles. Not a fan of cosmetic changes on dogs. Most food coloring is harmless as used in human foods so might be safe for coat. Should not be permanent and wash off.
But to be safe, worth a call to your vet or reputable groomer.

Would never use a "human" hair coloring! Too much risk of the skin absorbing chemicals that could irritate or cause reaction.

I am not sure why you would even want to use food coloring in food intended for dogs, since dogs' eyes do not see in color, and they determine what is good to eat based on smell.
Judging from the noses on my four "professional sniffers" I am always thinking that if I could just come up with an ingredient that would make a really healthy, nutritious dog food smell like rotten meat, I'd have myself an instant success in the dogfood business, and whatever color it was wouldn't matter to them one bit, LOL

Depends what the use would be. Food coloring is safe and non-toxic as a food safe product. To use a hair dye for Fido, do a patch test. Lighter coats will stain. To color his food, dogs are color blind so it won't matter. The bottom line is, yes it's safe.

Most of the time yes. Its in many dog foods but not too much. If your dog has any stomache problems go to a doctor and find out.

It won't hurt them, but they'll likely poop in color! :)
