In a recent group of answers regarding evolution I read things like this:

"Evolution has been scientifically disproven time after time. Remember, it is only a theory, not a science, it is taken by faith and is a religion."

"can u really be comfortable with the fact that we came from dirt.
that is seriously disturbing. Praise Be To God. " (from someone claiming evolution is wrong, no less)

"If we were evolved from monkeys (which is just totally laughable) there would no longer be monkeys."

" I don't know all about your ancestors, but mine didn't swing from a tree."

"I believe in GOD. we did not come from monkeys.Lol "

"Evolution isn't proven. It's still a theory."

So I have to ask where do people learn this stuff? Is this being taught to people by their churches?

If you believe those things can you tell us where you learned them?

Can someone please cite one thing that 'scientifically disproves' evolution?

CMW, I read it but it's pretty clear that he doesn't even understand what evolution is. His comments are about everything but. And his statement "As a Christian, I am persuaded the Bible is a reliable source of information." pretty much negates all of his efforts.

There is a whole industry of anti-evolutionist fundamentalist Christians. They give seminars, sell books, magazines, CD's and DVD's. They have a monthly magazine, for people who home-school and people who want a steady supply of ammunition.

I went to such a seminar. During the breaks they had a dozen tables covered with books, DVD's, posters, pamphlets, etc. Some of the attendees fillining bags the size they use at the supermarket; couldn't get enough of it. They has a $399.99 special in a complete set of stuff; a couple of people bought them.

Google "Intelligent Design" to see some of their arguments. Their argument is that living things are so well-designed that there must have been intelligence behind it, which implies a Creator, which means the Bible is 100% true, which means the Grand Canyon was created in 40 days when the waters from Noah's flood drained out through the Colorado River. (It sounds better when they explain it.)

There are a couple of well educated people who they feature prominently - men and women with doctorates in Astro-Physics, cell biology, Zoology - in the anti-evolution crusade. They are willing to admit that what they call "micro-evolution" is true. They use the different species of dogs as an example. They don't believe in "macro-evolution", which is when new species arise.

The presentations are slick and professional. I'm assuming the books and DVD's are too.

I would bet that most fundamentalist ministers have read a book or two by the Intelligent Design crowd, and passed the knowlege on to their congregations. I'm sure those DVD's in the shopping bags would get shown to friends and neighbors.

Out of all the people with Biology PhD's in the world, there are only a few who are strict creationists, and fewer who publish, so the same phrases get passed around a lot. You learn to recognize them.

If 100,000 Biologists believe evolution is the best explanation, and 4 don't, who are you going to believe? BUT - but if evolution is true, your entire faith crumbles, your daughter becomes a whore and your son turns gay, and all that tithing just went down the toilet, when you could have gone to Hawaii (or so they fear), NOW who are you going to believe?

Nothing scientifically disproves evolution. Onthe other hand, it has not been scientifically proven either.
Don't take what you see on YA as the final arguments for or against evolution! You'll see a lot of floss here!
Take the time to read books, there are renowned scientists who studied and received their degrees from secular universities in the USA and wlsewhere who do not happen to believe in evolution. Read books by Whitcombe and Morris, or Duane Gish. You would be able to see some more serious arguments.
A little more serious than "why are there still monkeys?" duuuuh!
For anyone to tell you "Evolution has been disproved" - those are people who know nothing and hope you don't know anything either. To make it sound even more true "disproved over and over again". Ouch! Christians use that kind of manipulative argument? I want to hide my head somewhere!

CMW, most of that article deals with abiogenesis, not evolution. Common descent from apes is a question of evolution not abiogenesis.

The only part of that article that I saw that actually dealt with evoluitonary theory discussed gaps in the fossil record. That argument is a canard that was relevant maybe 20-30 years ago but is no longer even legitimate:

(I'm going back to that article to read more and I will return if I find anything else in it which deals with evolution.

So far, there is nothing to disprove evolutionary theory with science. The Natural History Museum here in DC is full of things that support the theory, so I'll side with science on this one.

I think people who say those things didn't "learn" it anywhere and that is the problem; they simply regurgitate what they have been told in church or by family and friends. If they would open a book and investigate for themselves, they would learn that they are making flase claims and no science backs the creationist theory.

The bible also says that
1] The Earth is flat, and the planets and sun revolve around it.
2] Looking back when God says don't look back is a worse sin than getting your father drunk and having incest because you want him to get you pregnant.
3] Also if the whole world got flooded, how did animals from continents other than Europe or Asia get to the ark? As for the sinful people who caused the flood, don't you think it was unfair on people like Native Americans and Australian Aboriginals, who had never been told they must not worship idols, etc? The people who wrote the bible did not know about these continents, but GOD did.

Those might not be scientific evidence, but you can't deny that they haven't PROVEN evolution.

and something to think about. Mathematically, a result can be found out using several different methods. Let's start with something easy. the number 4 can be found out by 2x2, 3+1, 16x25%, 2 squared, etc. So is it not logical that two animals can have similar physiology without sharing a common ancestor?
btw, horses have similar physiology to us in muscle chemistry, teeth and to some extent hair patterns, yet we are not related, interesting....

here's a wierd situation...
say there are animals A, B, and C. A's child mutates and gets bigger eyes, so it survives. B's child mutates and gets longer claws, so it survives. C's child stays constant. child A's child again mutates and its combersome tail becomes shorter, so it survives. child B's child mutates and grows toes, so it survives. Child C's child stays constant. offspring A is a mutant and loses fur, which is a burden, but it still survives. offspring B is a mutant and its ears enlarge, enhancing hearing, so it survives. offspring C is drastically variant (but not a mutant) and has fewer offspring, but are yet more similar to his own. greatgrandchild A is genetically variant, and regains the fur its ancestors lost. greatgrandchild B is gentically variant and develops an inability to swim. greatgrandchild C is genetically variant and its feet enlarge, enabling it to swim. Over time, genetic variances cause the descendants of A,B, and C to change in size, physical appearance and abilities. Modern day A has become small, decorated, and lives in trees. Modern day B has become larger, more stimulated, but now endangered do to its lack of habitat. Modern day C just claimed that it was related to both A and B.

get the picture?

I am a Christian Preacher, writer and Evangelist. As such I believe in the creation account.
But I also believe that evolution was one of the tools that God used.
Perhaps I can't prove evolution is wrong, but then evolution can't prove God doesn't exist.

Yes, I have my sources

I'm not saying we didn't evolve, but there's something called evolution that is filled with principles and whatnot, that's where the problem is

Now about my sources, lol, you'll just have to wait for my questions, hope to see you're there

From churches, their ministers, and from religious websites out to disprove evolution.

Yes. Read Dr. John R. Baumgardner, geophysicist at Los Alamos National Laboratory, with advanced degrees from Princeton and UCLA. I'll even provide you with one of the sites. He's just one of many.

Now, the question is will you read something that contradicts what you THINK you know?

Why do I think not one of the people on this page will read it? Prove me wrong. I dare you. LOL, thumbs down already. Now THERE'S an open mind.
