I have some obsessions and my mother also. I knock on wood every time I think of something bad. My mother always checks three times if the door is locked and if the lights are off. She buys the most trashy things in the world, magazines, collective stuff, and clothes she never wears. She can't stand the idea of throwing them away. She even keeps plastic bags and wrapping papers etc. It's so annoying,I'm really worried.

I'm obsessed more generally than I am specifically.

Doesn't matter what it is, if it offers a small bit of knowledge and I have nothing else to do but read about it, I'll want to know everything about it, up until something else happens (like getting out of class, or World of Warcraft servers coming back up) then I wont even think about it ever again, but for the time I am reading about it, I become obsessed.

I have the same obessions as Tanny, and will go check again if I m not satisfied, it is ocd, now I check once and just stop myself from going again, it can be very stressful, I also have to have things perfectly in line and clean, I do have a handle on it because I am well aware of what Im doing I just try and stop myself from over obsessing! few Im not the only one great to know! Sometimes it can wear you out! Y ou just have mind yourself and dont let it rule your life, and try and not let everything get to you? thats what I say to myself! Plus its good to talk to someone, a friend someone your trust, good to talk about it!

I am perfectly at ease with my ocd, i find if i try to repress it i get a bit stressed, so i don't bother it and it doesn't bother me. Fortunately it's not bad, I'll be walking down the street and I'll realise that I'm avoiding cracks and grids and things, I just laugh it off and try to focus on something else rather than force myself to walk on them. It's daft really.

I just read something someone said.
Do not go on medication - that's one of the most stupid irresponsible things I've heard. There's nothing wrong with you unless it actually stops you leading a normal life - ie going to work, relaxing, getting a normal amount of sleep at night.
If your life is overly affected by it then speak to a psychologist. If someone puts you on medication they are a complete plank.
I'm a psyche nurse, I have looked after people with severe OCD and you are not one of them.
If you think these things you go on ridiculous about are 'really stupid' then just go with that, you will talk yourself out of caring about them so much when you put it back into perspective.

You might suffer from anxiety or OCD. I'd go see a doc. There is no reason to suffer. Perhaps therapy will help as well. I've had obessions my whole life. Every day for 10 years I was sure I was HIV positive. I finally got tested and was fine. What a waste of energy all that worry was! Hit things head on, and try to develop a "no fear" attitude!

I do get on "kicks" of being highly interested in something. I am not exactly sure what causes them- perhaps an acute fascination with something that triggers a particular emotional response. Right now am a bit obsessed with sewing- at least it is constructive!

Is sounds like you may have OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder). Go talk to your doctor or go see a therapist. Medication can help to relieve the symptoms and let you live compulsion free.

My obsession is that before I go to bed I have to check all around the house, the doors, windows, cooker, plugs etc,it takes me ages to get to bed and sometimes I'll think to myself did I check something so have to go down stairs again and do it all over again. So you're not on your own.
