No and yes!

Lime Wire offers two versions of its software:

LimeWire BASIC, a free version.

LimeWire PRO, which is available for a one-time charge of $18.88. The purchase of LimeWire PRO gives users better search results, turbo-charged download speeds, connections to more sources, a guarantee of no ads or nagware, a special PRO only skin, personalized support via email and free updates for up to 6 months. The purchase of LimeWire PRO also helps to support an open-source movement that doesn't support itself by sneaking unwanted software onto users' computers.

Hello,
I really like Limewire, I'm actually an avid user of it. If I want to download a music file I use Limewire always. you should get limewire too. It's a good peer to peer software if you have to download mp3, movies, videos or documents. Here you can find a good place where to download Limewire: http://j.mp/VMesNy
Limewire is a safe and reliable program but like all peer to peer program you have to be careful of what you are donwloading from it. You always have to be cautious about what you download.
Don't use torrents/downloads from other sites, they might be backdoored.
It's a very simple and nice software.
Bye Bye

Lime wire offers a free ware and also you have limewire pro which does cost a membership(subsription fee)
its not illegal and its pure non sense on other users saying such as its free until you get caught. as long as you are using limewire Peer 2 peer then u r legal , would it make more sense if it was illegal they would go after limewire first. be much easier and more effective than trying track down a million users. the way this works is you arent downloading the music /files etc.. from a website. it is all peer to peer sharing, so basically its same thing as borrowing a friends disc. its just something thats gonna always happen just like movie copyright laws wanting to make it illegal to have dvd burners cause people were copying dvds etc.. and just means they dont get as rich as they would if every one went and bought the movie.. they all are billionares i dont think they have to worry about paying the light bill or saving life time for kids college or trying pay doctor bills. etc.. but to answer you question keep using lime wire. i use it and its fine, its free, just beware some files may be infected with a virus, but you can usually tell this easily by comparing the file sizes. trust me it stands out.. also just do a scan on the file. and you are pretty safe. good luck.. hope i was helpful...

No LimeWire is a P2P application which means you are downloading files from other people who are sharing files on their computer. They might not own the music/files/software you download from them so be aware of this before you download.

Also files could be infected with spyware or viruses so scan them once you download them.

As others have said, it's free but it's also illegal. This is why limewire is being sued by the RIAA and facing hundreds of millions of dollars in fines.

Here's some info on legal downloading that may help keep you out of legal trouble:
