Trieste is not popular tourist destination city like Rome of Florence, but I enjoyed the day we spent there and treasure the ring made of sterling and a green stone I bought in a street market. What would you recommend about this sometimes overlooked jewel?

i lived six years in trieste and really i wouldnt recommend it.
its ok to stay there one day, but there isnt really much to see and do, and italy is full of other more interesting places that are out of the traditional tours.
anyways, things to see: grotta gigante cave, duino and miramare castles, the main square: piazza unità, san giusto, and an ice cream at viale xx settembre (i used to live there :-P) or at the traditional caffè san marco in via battisti.
