This is a great question. I'm going to China myself in May. I put this question on my watchlist.

I generally take along a small power converter and a set of adapters. You can get them on line or at Radio Shack. Most important to get one that works with "Electronic" appliances not just electric.

Your passport, visa (if required) and $$$.

You can get practically everything there (if u are not too particular about the brands)...

a pouch or bag where you can hide underneath your tshirt in order to prevent pickpocket from getting to it
