I personally feel that 10 to bed is too late. If you give him a late bedtime now, the progression into teenager will be tougher on you. You will get responses like "when I was 12 you let me stay up till 10, I'm sixteen now have drivers license so I should be allowed to stay out until 11 or 12pm and be in bed by 1am". My parents went through this with my older brother. So with me only 3 years behind they decided that I went to bed at 8-9pm every night until I was sixteen and then I had no bedtime anymore. This worked for me because once they let me stay up I didn't want too. Mainly because the first time I overslept for school (because I was up watching TV) they poured water on my face while I was sleeping....totally pissed me off...but they got the point across. You pay the consequences for your decisions. Hope this was helpful.

Your son has some serious issues. They should not be considered something you have to put up with. He may be having big trouble at school and afraid to tell you. It would seem that when your husband is home he feels safe or at the very least has a deep need to please his father. My son wet the bed now and then when he was 6 or 7. We could not tell that there was any reason for it and it didn't happen on a regular bases. However we decided to move to a better home in another part of town. All the bedrooms were on the second level. He seemed ecstatic about the move. Very happy about it. And he never wet the bed again. I think he had a fear or one of the kids on our block or maybe something at school. By changing that it made all the difference. It sounds to me like your son is depressed also. That is why he is sleeping so much and not interested in anything. One other possibility is sleep-aptnia. If he is not breathing correctly at night it will keep waking him up and he will not get the sleep he needs. Have a doctor check that out. Your husband and you should set down with him sometime and in a non-threatening way talk to him about this. If he won't open up have your husband talk to him alone. And again if that doesn't work alone with you. Ask him what is going on. Is he afraid of something. Is there anything you can do to help. Finally you need to get some professional help for him. This should not be happening to a 12 year old boy. I would fear if not corrected it will only get worse. Remember however that wetting the bed is not something he can consiously control. You must try to find the real problem before this will ever go away.

When i was 12 it was home for 8 and bed for 9, but to be honest i think i will use this rule on my own when they get to 12.
9 is a very brave time to let a 12 year old stay out till given the horrible things that happen now.

For my siblings and myself we always had to be in the house at dark, or at a friends house. We were not allowed on the streets after dark, this way my parents could rule out any wrong doing being done in the community. It was then 9 if we WERE at a friends and bed at ten. It stayed like this until we where in grade 12. Sleep is important to lose young learning minds. What you are doing sounds perfect. A mother knows best, you stick with your own thoughts.

My daughter is 12, she is always in before it goes really dark, but if out at a friends, we are a bit more relaxed. As for bed time, that depends, things such as school the next day etc play a part. Fair but firm is the best way to go.

A 12yro boy should be in the house before dark!!
Bedtime would depend upon what time he needs to be up to go to school. Probably somewhere around 9. I would think that 10 is on the late side.

mine had to be inside when it got dark or at least in the yard where I could see them. I wanted them to get 8 hours sleep, so 9:30 or 10 was bedtime on a school night. a bit later if there wasn't school the next day.

That sounds good for bed time. But I would say be in before it gets to dark. I had to be home when the streetlights come on unless I asked my parents to stay out later if we played release the peddler or something.
