finds out that someone is looking at other paths they preach AT you, not to you? And why do they say I am not going to preach to you but....? Do they think we have not been doing our own searching? If you are a Christian that answers please don't quote the Bible to me. I have read it and know it very well. Thanks for your thoughts and help.

For all the people that say I don't know the Bible I served a mission for almost 2 years. I have taught Sunday School for about 3 years.

I think Christians should live their lives in a manner that reflects their Faith. This should be in and of itself a testimony. Preaching to someone usually does no good and often causes others to feel like they are being judged. Many Christians can "talk the talk", but too few "walk the walk".

I am a Christian and I get this from Christians all the time, I really think the problem is that they are so use to being preached at instead of being taught so they just do it to everyone else.
Example I didn't and will not see the movie the Passion of Christ, my aunt who is a christian said I was running from God because I didn't want to torture myself with this movie, even though I explained that it would hurt me more than benefit me. I think you have to smile and say thank you and move on.

Not all of us are like that and I believe that just as God gave us free will that you have the right to choose what you believe and in what religion. I think that some other religions have some very good points and downfalls just as Christianity does.

Unfortunately that is one of the tenets of their faith, they must spread the word. Now some would say this is not a bad thing, the problem is that some will take that to mean that they must force it down your throat. At least one good thing to remember is that these personalities that force their faith the hardest are the ones that would have you burned at the stake or stone to death if the law still allowed them to.

I feel very strongly about the freedom of individuals to choose their own faith and I spent 6 years in the military defending everyone's right to choose so believe me when I don't like it when someone tries to force feed me their faith. I am more than willing to have an intelligent conversation about differences in faith but being a zealot is never good.

Blessed Be )O(

Because they're so filled with their own sense of self-righteousness that they refuse to acknowledge that there may be some merit to other religious beliefs. And, they're lazy; it's easier to be spoon-fed carefully screened doctrine and interpretations than to engage in independent thought that might contradict what they've been taught since birth. If the Bible was as clear-cut as they seem to believe, there wouldn't be hundreds of distinct Christian denominations.

Most Christians feel as if they need to preach as the bible teaches them to do. They mean to encourage (or rather force) you to see how they see the world. Do your own searching.

Actually, it's the other way around. Being raised a Christian, you were force fed what they wanted you to belive. If you questioned it, you were told that you lacked faith & should accept it all unconditionally. ........Sorry. I'm college educated & I question religion, government, everything. If you can't answer my questions, why should I believe anything you have to say? And for the record, I have researching other religions & the eastern ones make the most sense so far.

sigh, may I be honest??
I've learned a whole lot about what ppl think of Christians through this y/a group..I've been convicted, frustrated, and grieved. I truly do appreciate your thoughts. As a Christian I sometimes forget that loving someone is what truly matters to Jesus..(after all, it is a commandment) In a way, you're right, we preach AT you, why? well, for me, I forget that one commandment. Without love I am just making noise...

Christians are taught to believe that in order to help people, they have to SAVE them. Most don't mean any harm, i think. They are just doing what their religion has bred in them since the early days of sunday school. "Bring a friend to church with you. invite invite invite. Save those less fortunate by bringing them to god"

It is good to question your beliefs. It will either confirm them or give you a new path to follow.

I am a Christian.

Well the problem is that many Christians are both impatient and intolerant. Both unChristlike features. So when you mention that you have studied or have looked into other faiths they sense that you could be a threat or that you are a "lost" cause and therefore try to FEAR or MANIPULATE into their belief system.

They feel like once you mention other faiths they have ONE last chance to convert you. This is not true of all Christians, but probably characterizes too many Christians.

I am open-minded and rationale and patient. If you ever want to discuss something please IM or EMAIL me. Thanks.

Maybe they just don't want a person to go the wrong way....we are not here to preach at anyone, but God does tell us that we should teach and preach His word....I hate that you feel that christians preach "at" you.
