You lose some nutrition when you boil because vitamins seep out into the water that you throw out. Steamed is when the veggies sit above the water. The heat of the steam cooks the veggies. This is the most healthy way to cook veggies. You can get steamer baskets that fit your regular pots. The steamer baskets can be metal or plastic and purchased at Walmart or any other housewares store.
Have a nice Valentine's Day!! :)

Boiled or Steamed?
Boiling vegetables in water leaches out valuable nutrients, especially potessium. Instead of throwing the water out, it can be used for soups.
Steaming is a better way to preserve the nutrients. The steam will not leach out as many nutrients as boiling does.
However, I find the best method of heating vegetables is in the Roman Pot. The nutrients are much better preserved in this clay pot with high domed lid. The pot is soaked for 10 minutes, then the vegetables are filled in. The taste is much better, too, often awesome! It takes about 10 minutes to prepare the meal for the Roman Pot, than it is baked for 1 hour and ready is the meal! Sauces, spices or just butter can make the meal taste in different ways.
The Roman Pot is available in some kitchen stores and on the Internet.
Happy meals!

When you boil veggies you actually submerge the veggie in the water and boil. You lose alot of flavor and vitamins this way. Steaming is better. You can get a steamer to put in your pot, you can find them in any kitchen section of most stores. You can also just place about 1cup of water in the bottom of a sauce pan and put in your veggies then put a tight lid on it and bring the water to a rapid boil and boil until the veggies are at a tenderness you like.

Steamed keeps more nutrition. Use a steamer 'cage' or
similar device to keep the veggies off the boiling water, but sealed with a good lid. Test them every 5 minutes or so until they are done to your liking (slightly crunchy (al dente) is best.
