I have had cats and kittens around my whole life but I have never encountered anything like these two nor has anyone I know. The male is always breaking things, tareing my plants apart, everywhere he is not supposed to be and no matter how I try to disipline him he continues. The female isn't as bad but she does follow his lead. I am home alot and give them lots of love they have lots of toys and things to play with . I just can't get them to "mind". ???

TY,
They do not go outside I was hoping to keep them as indoor only cats but I am reconcidering this idea. As for the spray bottle I have been doing that since day one and they don't mind the water they are actually quit facinated by it. I spray them they run and then just turn around and come right back for more (it seems). ??? weird

Buy and plant some "Cat Grass" it has low and easy to digest fibers in it so your cat won't puke it up like normal grass and they eat it instead of your houseplants. Quite the savior. If they are bad, spray them in the face with a LIGHT MIST water bottle...no streams folks, LOL. Sometimes, cats will be mad at you for disciplining them, and they will poop in places that aren't their litterbox. If they do this, clean the area well, and then put tinfoil over the area you just cleaned. The cat will come back eventually and try to use the restroom in the same spot since they smell that they've gone there before, but when they try to, the feeling and noise from the tinfoil irritates them and they leave. It's kinda like nails on the chalkboard. GOOD LUCK!

My cat was indifferent to being sprayed by a water bottle, so the vet suggested we put a few pennies in an empty Coke can and tape the opening. It makes a surprisingly loud noise. Now whenever my cat starts doing something naughty (getting on the counter, climbing the Christmas tree, etc) we just toss the can in his general direction (making sure it doesn't actually hit him). The can works SO well now all we have to do is pick it up and he takes off before we even toss it. We call it the Can of Discipline. This is a much better idea than just raising your voice at your kitties, because you want them to see the bad noise as the consequence, and not YOU. They need to learn that you = love!

Also, I agree with your decision to keep them as indoor-only cats. Indoor kitties live MUCH longer, healthier lives.

Well let's see,i have ten cat's in the house, two alway's in,eight in and out.I have alway's used a water pistol. They start doing something they get it,you don't have to even move to them. That way their not blameing you for getting wet.And they don't know where it came from so they don't know whe it's comeing.Anytime they get on or near something their not suppose to be on,they get it.Scare's the H*** out of them.I see them after awhile start to avoid that area completely.Kinda walk around where they were getting wet.So for that i can say i have no problem's.I made a 5ft climbing pole with capet and they climb that. There all fix'ed so they don't wounder away from yard to far.Yes plant's if your not there is something else,i have a few, well i'll say had a few they liked. All and all a cat don't do the tearing up must after there over 8mo.I hope you the best with your cat's.Want couple more, all fix'ed.

Differen't breeds have different personality traits. It sounds like you got yourself a little "hell" cat. Don't fret though, they can be trained. Just like with small children, discipline is very important with young kittens. Get a small squirt bottle, like used for misting plants, and spray them in the face when they are doing the "bad" things. Since the water is a fine mist, it bothers them and they will try to avoid being sprayed. After a few times, they will get the picture, and stop doing those behaviors.

You have one of those kitties that cannot abide being indoors 24/7. I have one and I recognize the symptoms - but of course, I cannot guarantee that this is what is causing the mischieviousness of your male cat. I never allow my cats outside without strict supervision (they are leash-trained). They are indoors most of the time. I solved my hyper cat's discontent indoors by getting an outdoor enclosure for him. It is a 13ft long by 7 ft wide by 7ft tall chainlink kennel meant for dogs. I "cat-proofed" it by buying the tarpaulin top (so the cat is boxed in) and making sure there are no "holes" big enough for the cat to climb through. I placed in in a grassy place in my backyard and put in tree logs, plastic plants, other interesting hidey- places and perching spots. I put my cats in there for short periods in the am and the pm - longer periods if the weather is warm and good.

You can't train cats. You can't discipline them either, and most of the things people recommend are unkind. You can find alternative things that they prefer (for example, scratching posts because they prefer the post to your sofa). But knocking stuff off shelves is normal behavior for a kitten/young cat. You put breakables away until they're so old they sleep most of the time.

You catproof your house by putting breakables away. I know some people who have cats and plants, but I find life easier with just cats.

The best and most humane solution is getting a water gun or squirt bottle. They learn quickly!! Eventually it will get to the point to where all you got to do is show them the bottle. Works like a charm!!! As for the plants. You can try the water bottle but the best thing to do is keep em high away from where they can get to them, like hanging plant baskets etc. Or get rid of them all togather since there are so many plants that are poisonous topets anyways. I have trained all 7 of my cats on water bottles. Cats hate water (well most of them not my bubba he likes water but hates the gun) and sometimes you have to soak them before they get the hint like my bubba gump I'll have to squirt him several times before he finally gets the hint. And it's really is the best way to disapline a cat.

I agree totally with the answers about spraying them with water. Get a spray bottle and when they misbehave, squirt 'em with it!

Please do not use a bottle that has had chemicals or cleaners in it. Buy a new one at WalMart. They are available in the cosmetic department or the plant department, depending on what size you want.

Good luck!

Our vet told us when they misbehave. Right when they are doing it spray them with water. You get a spray bottle and just give it a squirk. It worked for the cats that we have. Well good luck and i hope this helps a little.

Be careful with the water. If it gets into their ears you can end up with a whole new problem! And a sick kitty!
Do you plan on spaying/ neutering them? The boy might calm down after he's fixed. Also the coke can suggestion above works well. My mother-in-law used it to train her cats not to jump on the counters and curtains.
