Hi, the maximum dimesions of a carry-on item is 55 inches (length + width + height) regardless of if you are traveling on a Boeing 717 or 737. and you are allowed one carry on item like a dufflebag and then a smaller item like a purse or briefcase.
The makeup is a security concern-regulated by TSA, not AirTran. TSA will throw out any liquid or gel (including makeup and lotion) that is not in a 3 oz. or less size container in a clear, 1-quart size ziplock bag. (I forgot to remove my little bottle of lotion from my purse and they threw it away and I'm a dang airline employee)

To avoid any aggravation, I would suggest putting all of your makeup in your checked luggage- you're allowed to check two pieces as long as theyre each under 50 lbs.

Hope that helps!

You have to have a bottle that is 100 milliliters or smaller (a little over 3 ounces). Even if there is less than that in the bottle... For what you can and can't bring on the plane, check out www.tsa.gov they're the government agency that makes up these rules (it's not the airline).

And AirTran has about the same room for carryon as any other airline.

When I have flown Airtran, the carryon space was about the same as every other airline. Also, what the other poster said about only being able to take bottles of liquid or gel less than 3.5 ounces is very true. And they WILL throw it away if the bottle is too big.

Put your face wash in a smaller container. Only containers less than 3 oz. can come onboard, no matter how full they are. Makeup is OK, if it is liquid then put it in the zip-loc baggie with your face wash. For carry on restrictions, check the airtan website as it will vary from plane to plane and airline to airline.
