They spend too much time thinking about the wedding and not enough about the marriage. Divorce is way too common now. But hey I bet they had beautiful weddings and that's all thats important.

For me it is because this is the one event that will only happen ONCE in my life. I want everything to be perfect (even though i know in the reality things may go a bit wrong). I want everyone around me to celebrate and join me in my happy day.
Men dont think about the wedding as much as women do- the planning usually falls on our laps- therefore we end up doing majority of the foot work.

I am a married woman. Me and my husband were married on July 9,2005. The best answer to your question is because women don't want 2 wait 2 the last minute to arrange a wedding, which takes time and is very, very, very stressful on the bride because the bride does 90% of the work in preparing and thinking about their wedding day.

It's part of our culture. Often people spend thousands of dollars and hundreds of hours planning one day, but give little thought to the marriage they are beginning.
That's why so many marriages end in divorce. If people invested in a marriage what they do in a wedding they'd probably have a far better chance of staying together.

Because even little, tiny girls are thinking of it. The perfect, princess day.
This is all well and good, just as long as the bride realizes a wedding is more about the lifetime that follows than it is about the wedding day.
Not good if you take any old groom just to have the princess day.

'Cause they're brainwashed from the time they're little girls. Remember the bridal Barbie dolls? Yup, I loved playing with mine! And who doesn't love a beautiful, romantic wedding, where people pledge to love one another until "death do us part"? Then the happy couple bid goodbye to their loved ones, leave the reception and fly off to Europe or the Caribbean or other storybook destination. What's not to love?
Despite weddings being a multi-billion dollar industry, more than 50 percent of marriages in the U.S. still end in D-I-V-O-R-C-E. Who knows how content or happy the other "lucky" 50 percent are.
It sucks to let go of "the dream" of love and marriage but we need to be more realistic. Nothing wrong with getting married, but why not go to pre-marital counseling first and try to resolve future issues that may come out to haunt you down the road?

because it's fun!!!! and in my case it an excuse for me to procrastinate on schoolwork........which isn't a good thing since i'm behind in one of my classes.... but that's ok!!
your wedding is supposed to be one of the most important days in your life, so people want it to be perfect. some people tak it a little too far, and others are content with simplicity...it depends on your personality and values. but like many peopple have said, more focus needs to be on the marriage and relationship instead of the wedding. i just like to think about it because it will be the start to a new life.

Because, being girls, they've been thinking about being a bride and getting married since they were old enough to dress up and play house and play with bride dolls. It's the way they're programmed. That tendency is helped along by the media that helps promote the over-40-billion-dollar-annually wedding industry.

Love the attention, and that its about them. Knowing people from everywhere are coming to see them. Dressing up like a princess. Its a huge step to take in there life and making a huge comitment to that other person that they want it to be the best most memorable day of their lives. So they want it to be perfect and but every thought they can into it.

No idea... it baffles me. I had a friend stop talking to me because I couldn't attend her wedding which was out of town.
I think I'm gonna throw a surprise wedding disguised as a BBQ. If they could come, great. If not, no worries!
