Have to have a salad with steak, toss all kinds of veggies in there with a light dressing. Or do some steamed broccoli or asparagus.
We don't do mashed taters with steak and never do the garlic. We love baked or hash browns. And we love sauteed mushrooms on the side also!
Save room for dessert since it's a special day and make some frosted brownies with some valentine decorations on them.

I would scratch the garlic mashed and make some red skin potatoes slice in fours and sauteed in olive oil and garlic, and some steamed asparagus, just my suggestion for a good meal.
Also might want to wrap the outer edges of your fillet in bacon, It comes out great and gives it great flavor.

Green beans. Buy some fresh ones and cut the ends off. Boil them for just a few minutes like maybe 2 or 3 minutes then toss them in a skillet with some olive oil, onions, garlic and bacon pieces. It is yummy! That's what I'm making to go with my meal tonight.

Try French style peas, they are fast and very good.
2 cups frozen peas
4 leaves lettuce
3-4 French onions or 1 medium onion cut in 8 pieces
1 tbsp Fresh chopped tarragon or 2 tsp dried tarragon
1 tbs butter
1/4 tsp salt
Wash lettuce leaves well and shake dry, cut in wide stripes. Peel onions and halve.
Boil 3/4 cup of water in a pan with the salt. Add onions an lettuce leaves, and tarragon sprig, cover and simmer for 10 minutes. Add frozen peas. Bring back to boil and simmer for a further 10 minutes, or until water is absorbed and peas tender.
Drain. Discard tarragon sprig, if used. You can serve them right away or transfer them to a warm serving dish until you are ready.

Definitely has to be Caesar salad. My favorite recipe:
1 head romaine lettuce, washed and torn or cut into bite-sided pieces
2-3 green onions, thinly sliced
4 strips bacon, fried and crumbled
1 c parmesan cheese
juice from one lemon
equivalent amt of olive oil
1 clove minced garlic
1-2 tsp kosher salt (to taste)
1-2 tsp black pepper (to taste)
1-2 tsp Italian seasoning (to taste)
Croutons
Combine romaine, green onions, bacon and parmesan cheese in a large bowl. If you're making your own croutons, fry chunks of bread in left-over bacon grease. Combine lemon juice, olive oil, salt, pepper, Italian seasoning and crushed garlic in a small bowl. Whisk vigorously, or blend with a stick blender. Pour over the salad, toss, and garnish with croutons on top. You'll get asked to make this over and over again.

I would add creamed spinach.... here is one of my favorite recipies. Also, I would skip the garlic mashed pots and make creamy scallop potatoes... These two sides will compliment your steak... Enjoy!
INGREDIENTS:
2 cups chopped, cooked spinach
2 teaspoons finely minced onion
1 teaspoon salt
dash nutmeg
1 cup heavy cream
1 tablespoon butter
1 hard-cooked egg, sliced, optional
PREPARATION:
Heat spinach in saucepan; add onion, salt, nutmeg, cream, and butter. Mix well and heat through. Spoon onto serving dish and top with hard-cooked egg slices, if using.
Creamed spinach recipe serves 4.
