It's ridiculously expensive - I'd rather use the money for my own retirement or for an educational IRA for the kid (Suze Orman actually recommends saving for your retirement above and beyond saving for college tuition as it will most help your kid in the long run if they don't have to support you in old age!)

yeah you never need to use it and end up paying a huge chunk of change that could have gone some place else. I asked a lot of people if it was even worth doing. They all said, did you get sick, did your family get sick? The odds of having to use the cord blood isn't that high. I'll save the money and use it for something I'm sure my baby will need.

Yes, the cost. Besides that, chances are your baby will not need it. Or if your baby does have a disease/disorder and needs it, chances are it is contaminated with the same disease.
