i live with kids who arent mine an if i were to buy a bottle of soda it would be gone within hours, same with a bag of chips or anything that i like for that matter... a bag of chips for me can last weeks same with soda or whatever.. i dont want to buy food an say they cant have any of it because that would be the only thing left in the fridge, ive been thinking maybe just buy a small refridgerator for my stuff an keeping it in the room. does anyone else here do that? how do you parents deal with never haveing food you want?

Yeah, if you're living wth other people it would be a good idea and shouldn't insult anyone for you to stock your own groceries in your own living space. If they cook meals for you or if you ever eat their groceries, but sure you chip in for those costs!!
As for parents, we just buy extra. We have been known to hide goodies on occassion! And I don't let my kids sit around and eat the whole bag of chips in one sitting, but they do go through food awfully fast.

I have a lot of kids-all mine, and the grocery bill can get mighty high. One rule in my house (among many) is that the kitchen and its contents are mine and under my sole authority. You don't get anything without asking! Water is the only "free" beverage you don't have to ask for, and there is no "free" food. Even if you happen to buy candy or snacks with your allowance, I still get to say 'when' you can eat it. Dictator mom? Maybe! If they sneak food they get a consequence. There are some particularly scary jobs called 'cleaning the refrigerator', and 'wash out all the trash cans'. Now do I give my kids treats and snacks? Certainly! There are times when that is acceptable. Are my children happy and healthy? Yes! Do they sometimes not get caught? Perhaps, but the honor system always wins out in the end.
Are these children you are speaking of any relation to you? If you are not a parent or Step-parent your situation is a whole different ball of wax. Then I might consider the fridge in my room. These children don't seem to have many rules or consequences. Lots of things to consider here, like their ages and such. Have you discussed this problem with the parent(s)?
If you go with the fridge in your room, you might also want to make sure you can lock it and/or your room. Hope your situation improves!

I don't see anything wrong with it. When I was a child my parents had their own food, and we were not allowed to get into it. It didn't hurt me any, and my parents kept it were we saw it often. My husband and I also have our own stuff that the kids are not allowed, but we put it up were it is not in plain view. The kids still know we have it, but they don't see it daily. Of course, respecting others things is a two way street. I don't eat the kids snacks that they buy for themselves.
I assume you are staying with a family? I would talk it over with the kids parents, and come to an agreement with them, some families do things differently!
Also, if the other food is all shared, maybe you can buy the kids their own little snacks for them to "put up" like you do yours. It will help teach them delayed gratification.

I know what you mean, my ex husband's son ate everything within a day of it being bought. He would eat a whole box of snack cakes or fruit roll-ups in one day. I had to hide some snacks so my daughter would have snacks to take to school and for after school, otherwise there would be nothing left. Sort of made me feel selfish, but what are you gonna do? I bought "community" food, but had to hide some, too.

The small fridge is a good idea. I keep things high up or don't buy them when they are around so they don't know I have them

mmm...seems sorta selfish, they are kids. Why not just tell them what they can and can not have. it's just simple bounderies. By the way its just food, it comes and go.
