evolution and creationism..

why don't many christians see the theory on evolution as simply another wonder of god, something that he may not have fully revealed? to me it would seem a simple, non-divine, answer to the question of how we got here to say that we were simply put here 6000 years ago, along with all the creatures that surround us..
while the explanation of how we got here that says that it was a wonderful process that developed over time, which sounds much more complex and beautiful (how many describe god's work) seems more divine and fitting

again, thank you for your responses and i hope no one takes this as an attack upon their religion.. just asking questions about it because i respect it

is it fair to say that the problem many christians have with evolution is concerning the story of adam and eve and the seeming incompatibility between the two?

Most do. It is only a noisy minority that don't.

Evolution only denies God when evolutionists declare that it all happened by chance.

Is it possible the God used some prospects that evolution teaches? Of course. There are in fact very few, if any, misconceptions in this world that are not original truth that has been twisted by men.

If you look at Greek and Roman mythologies, for example, you see great parallels between true Chistiandom and those mythologies. Why is that? It's because people before them had the truth and ungodly men came along and twisted that truth to fit their own desires and appetites.

I think evolution is very much the same. Many of the concepts that are put forth may very well have been the actual methods that God used to create the earth. In reality, we just do not have many details about how the whole process worked.

We know the general order in which things occurred and that general order certainly falls in line with what the evolutionists believe. But how did it happen? What was the exact process? We don't know.

Now this is all my own conjecture. I will not say that this is absolutely God's truth but it has been my observation that almost all falsehoods are simply truths where some things have been altered. Sometimes they are little things, sometimes they are bigger things.

I think that the real problem is that the story of the creation as outlined in the Bible contains a mixture of reality with symbolism and the Bible really does not make it clear which is which in those passages.

The things that I believe are absolutely true are these:
1. God created the heavens and the earth.
2. Adam and Eve were the first humans.
3. The Garden of Eden was a real place.
4. The tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil were real trees.
5. Adam and Eve were not permitted to eat the fruit from the tree of life after their eyes were opened with the other tree.
6. This was all part of God's plan before the creation even started.

Then if you have received such good answers why cannot you understand that the creation, took millienia? mankind was created 6000 years ago, from 1975, add from 1975 til 2007 to get the correct answer, Im not that great in math, other things I know better. What causes you to need to believe in evolution, the theory is "the changing from one species to another," I have yet to see a chimp change into a human, or a dog change to say a sheep, or a sheep change to a lion. there you have it. Jehovah God can do what ever he says He will do. This is what I was taught about evolution when I was a child.

Theistic evolution
Theistic evolution Also known as "evolutionary creationism", this is the general view that, instead of faith being in opposition to biological evolution, some or all classical religious teachings about God and creation are compatible with some or all of modern scientific theories, including specifically evolution.

It generally views evolution as a tool used by God, and can synthesize with gap or day-age creationism. Most adherents consider that the first chapters of Genesis should not be interpreted as a "literal" description.

Day-age creationism
The view that the "six days" of Genesis are not ordinary twenty-four-hour days, but rather much longer periods (for instance, each "day" could be the equivalent of millions, or billions of years of human time). This theory often states that the Hebrew word "yôm", in the context of Genesis 1, can be properly interpreted as "age."

Actually, that is a very good question. Yes, God could have created the world through an evolutionary process, and that would not have taken anything away from His glory. What makes the difference for the Christian, is the theology in Romans chapter 5, that "As by one man (Adam) death came into the world, in the same way by one man (Christ) life came into the world" - that's a paraphrase rather than an exact quote as I don't have my English Bible handy with me right now. But our difficulty is the fact that with evolution, there would have been many deaths in the world before Adam. and the comparison of "by one man" between Christ and Adam seems to be kind of absolute.
I know a lot of Evangelical believers who disagree with me, and have no problem with evolution. I don't say to them "You don't believe the Bible!". But they certainly understand some passages in a different way than me.
From the scientific point of view, I once attended a presentation by Dr. Duane Gish, and afterward a debate between him and a biology professor at McGill University. I think everybody (a large number of unbelievers present) felt that Dr. Gish ran circles around the biology professor. Doesn't prove anything in itself, but - and I am no scientist myself - I did feel that he pointed out a lot of holes, or unproven things in the evolution theory, reducing it to what it is - a theory. His claim was that you can't prove creation and you can't prove evolution. You end up interpreting facts according to the position you have.
EDIT:
On the other hand a lot of arguments I hear from creationists, particular here on the YA page, would be enough to turn me into a convinced evolutionist! Hopefully, people will not judge the creationist position by what they read in YA!!!!
EDIT again!
I see a fellow creationist made a reference to Kent Hovind. I understand the man is quite eloquent, but I'm not so sure of his scientific qualifications. I understand he has his degrees from unrecognized schools that give out degrees quite easily. Try Morris, or Gish. They are recognised and respected scientists who happen to be creationists.

Perhaps God did use evolution, the bible does state that he created animals (e.g. apes) before people.

However, the bible does say that creation took place in 6 days. If God is able to create the world out of nothing, He can do it in 6 days. This does not mean that evolution wasn't part of the process (I really do not know if it was). The thing to remember is that science is fallible. There are many mistakes made, and holes in theories that are not taught in science class. The accuracy of carbon dating alsos cannot be proven.

It depends on what type of Christian you talk to. I believe that the Bible is the true word of God so I don't believe in evolution. The Bible says that God created man in His own image not that He created a cell that would evolve to an ape that would evolve to a man. If you you claim to be a Christian and believe in evolution you are calling a God a liar because He explains how the world was created in the Bible. There are many that claim to be Christians that are not so always question the source of your answer. The Bible has all answers and is Gods word left for us.

To deny creation and say that we evolved is to say that God is a liar. In His Word He tells us He created in 6 days and rested on the 7th.

Because evolution denies the existence of God.

At the core of evolution is the complete and utter rejection of anything other than evolution.

Right from origins and the big bang, right up to where we are today.

So christians deny evolution since it denies their God.

Because it goes against what God said happened during creation and gives no meaning to the word faith, which we are supposed to have and grow in. Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
