No, it is not too early at all. This person will be involved with you, most likely plan your bachelorette party or give you a bridal shower. This person will have to take on some expense, so the more time you give her, the better. That way she can let you know if she can take on the responsibility or not.

No it's not to soon. As long as you are sure the wedding will take place (are you properly engaged?) and that the person is a steady fixture in your life. Asking her now will undoubtedly bring you closer together and the summer of 2008 is only really a year away! The time goes by faster than you think!

I would say that you should at least give the maid of honor at least six months to choose dress, shoes, hairstyle and have time to have everything fitted and paid for if needed.

Ask her right now. She will have lots of responsibilities, so you'd better let her know. Plus, if the person says no, you have lots of time to ask someone else.
I asked my maid of honour and all my bridesmaids the day after my husband proposed.

I wouldnt ask her yet, seeing as its still pretty far away. You wouldnt want to ask her than later on down the road you get into a fight with her and than she still expects that shes in the wedding and if you ever change your mind for whatever reason than you will be stuck, i would ask her about eight or seven months before the wedding.

My wedding is in June 2008.
I got engaged Aug '06, and I asked my MOH before the end of that year.

If you are 100% sure, without a doubt, that this is the right person to ask, then you can ask now. But you can't take it back later if you change your mind.

The sooner the better. That way she can save up some money too and look into planning things like you bridal shower and stuff like that.
