I had my tonsils taken out on 28 December 2006 and now have this sensation that there is something "stuck" in the back of my throat on the left side. I asked my doctor about it when I went in for my post-op follow up and he said that he had to cut into my soft pallate because my left tonsil was so large. He looked down my throat and said that he didn't see anything and told me that if I still had the feeling in a couple of weeks, I was to check back with him. I still have the sensation and now I seem to have sinus problems (excess drainage) to the point where it actually seems to block my throat, especially at night. I'm also snoring now and I never snored before the surgery. When I told my doctor's nurse about this, she told me to gargle with salt water and call back. I'm concerned about scarring (I am a keloid former) but no one else seems to be...should I see someone else, or should I even be concerned?

I did a quick search on keloids and it occurs on skin. So I'd say its safe to say that you don't have one in your throat. The drainage you are having is because the back of your sinuses are more open and allows this draining. Maybe you need Nasonex or or a corticosteroid inhalant like Advair to relieve the symptoms and see how your throat looks when it's not irritated to make a more relevant decision.

You would obviously feel better if you got a second opinion and I do believe that's what I would do. I had my tonsils out when I was 24 and it was very painful and I definitely took longer to heal then younger patients. Good Luck !
