who plays the stig in top gear?

Nobody knows, as it's a secret, with many rumours flying around.
The original stig (the one in black suit & helmet) is known to have been Formula1 reject Perry McCarthy (drove in 1992 for a team called "Andrea-Moda Judd" - one of the crappest teams ever to try participate in Formula1).
The current white stig, is rumoured to be a number of drivers taking it in turn, including 1996 Formula1 World champion Damon Hill being one of the names mentioned, along with someone called Ben Collins + ex. Toyota (c. 1992/1993) BTCC Driver Julian Bailey (also an ex. F1 drop-out)

The identity of the first Stig was revealed to be Perry McCarthy when his book Flat Out, Flat Broke was published in 2003. McCarthy is a former Formula 1 driver and test driver for the Benetton, Arrows and Williams teams, and also tested for BMW F1. In January 2006, a Daily Express article reported that Julian Bailey was secretly the Stig. In January 2007, Russ Swift, a stunt driver that has appeared on the show a number of times, said in an interview that the Stig is not played by just one person.

I heard the original one was perry McCarthy. remember he left top gear and went to the other progremme.i don't know if he would want to be associated with top gear any more.

his name is Perry McCarthy-think hes done 1 race in F1, otherwise he's Done Formula Ford & F3 & a stint at lemans

i dont believe its 1 person his size and shape are always changing they probably use any racing driver thats available at the time
