Not being funny. You've been advised where you can obtain this but hopefully your father in law wants you to do this? Sometimes there were good reasons things like this were never entered on copies of birth certificate given to a person.

You need to contact the registry office where his birth was registered. State the full name, date of birth and purpose you need the certificate for. You need to address the letter to the 'Superintendant Registrar'

I had to get a copy of mine recently, and it was £5.50 for the small copy (which sounds like the one you have) and £7.50 for the full copy (which has everything on).
This was in the UK, but it's best to speak to the Superintendant Registrar to check prices and information needed, as the prices may have changed since I applied for a copy of my own.

As it's for your father in law, you may need his permission if he is still living, or permission from a close family member if he has passed away.

You can also obtain one in person from the family records centre in London, or by post from the General records Office

Hope it helps

You need to go down to the Department of Health. The office you need is called Vital Statistics and you need to ask for a copy of the long form birth certificate. Since it's your father in law, you also need him to write a letter and get it notarized saying he gives you permission to obtain a copy for him. In NYC it cost $15.00 and you get the long form in the mail usually 4-6 weeks.

You can get a certified copy of anyones birth certificate from the county they were born in. You can get this info on line as far as the address, etc. of the courthouse to write or call. I just went through this.

All you need is the person's personal information that you are obtaining the birth certificate on and go down to the local courthouse and obtain one.

If you know where he was born you go the the Registry of Births and Deaths. Give them his name, date of birth and they will supply you with a certificate on payment of a fee.

Inquire in the county in which you were born. They should be able to give you a full copy. Also, if he was adopted the names of his parents may have been left off purposely, assuming it was a closed adoption.

Go to the registra's office for the local area he was born in and fill out a request form.
You can order this online in the UK but you need all the info for the forms.
Good Luck
